not shore wat these r like the foot the ladder looks the best i recken a fold up home made job would b good tho

the last one there ,the rubber mat, now theyre lethal. i read somewhere that in the States these are banned .

i have the yellow ladderm8. it has dozens of sharp spikes on the underside which grip the ground great but ya need flat ground to use safely

ankalad type i think is safest[ top right] as recommended by Smurf i got one similer and its good job helps prevent sideway movmt of ladder

im not sure ,but do any of these gizmos have a BS safety number ? i remember that for many years a BS number was required by law ,where it had undergone safety tests, independantly

Ladders must be sold with a BS or EU number but ladder safety devices not that I'm aware of.

i really think that between us we should design a ladder inc safety features and contact a manufacturer and say we want that.../emoticons/biggrin.png

i want a cup holder at the top of course...

People do daft things with ladders so they would never produce a ladder for window cleaners with a built in safety system as would make them liable./emoticons/biggrin.png

@mrtaytay have you had a quote off them yet? They replied to my message today and said it would cost £79.20.

Have not received mine yet but he sent me a message to say please allow up to 5 days for delivery.

Danny, I havent been in touch with the windowcleaning magazine. I have contacted the manufacturs directly. They e mailed me back, not quoting the price, but suggesting they phone me about a deal they have on.

after i had my accident ,a fall ,the full drop using a laddermat i contacted the maker. maker sent me copies a set of tests he had had done ,to a certain standard by independant firm. the tests were all flawed,i could see that even as a layman

all were done on a perfect dry surface and non with any weight at the top of a ladder, only with a weight midway up a ladder .

I would like to see a product vid of foot the ladder with a guy at the top of the ladder overreaching like this chap /emoticons/biggrin.png

Good point smurf. I think the foot the ladder device could be improved if if the length of the bar that sits on the ground was extended by a couple of feet.....wouldnt this provide some degree of prevention of sideways slippage?.

I think one one of the biggest attractions of the device is that it is easy and quick to move about, set up and store.

I do use a ladder for gutter clearing, but tend to find the safest place on the run to erect it then drag the debris back towards me with a pole and a gutter spoon attachment. I do use a stand-off which is a great piece of kit and sometimes a big foot if I'm non too sure. Common sense must play a part though, no safety gizmo is going to protect you from making foolish mistakes.

the bar that sits on the ground could be telescopic? not sure what the forces would be

more i think of it all these gizmos should be under a BS test or maybe its an EN test nowadays , because i have a feeling that very few would pass proper scrutiny .

i believe the definitive proper test would be on wet ground with a 14 stone weight at the 3rd rung from the top of the ladder , then a string is pulled that is attached to the bottom rung,to simulate movement of the person on the ladder
