Magnetic signs will ruin the paintwork

S

May be you already know if not - just bear in mind that using magnetic signs may ruin the paintwork ... At least that what happened with my transit - I haven t removed the small sign on the bonnet for about 5 months and today I discovered that the paint color has changed into a yellowish and there are a lot of rust dots too ...

transits havent got the best paint on them to b fair my m8 has a berlingo with a magnect sign an his is fine no rust or yellow staining must b transits shame as there ace vans they just seem to rust under the paint!!!

I had the same thing happen to one of the back doors on my berlingo so stopped using them.

i was gonna rubber-paint the floor next month - but does it worth it ? as in under 1 year (since i have it ) the van got rust all around anyway

Not long got my vista print magnetic signs. Car is a bit wrecked n will run into ground so dont care to much of paint. But good tip to be raised regarding damage caused by these cheap but effective magnets, maybe not get them on my brand new merc lwb sprinter van. Oops think i started dreaming there:oops:

Doesn’t hurt to dream as I've been dreaming most of my life./emoticons/biggrin.png

few yrs ago my neighbour had magnetic signs on her driving school car. one day she washed her car and left the signs on. well the sun baked the water trapped behind the signs and the paint blistered up,big bubbles

Just checked mine on my Transit. Yep,...yellow rectangle. It has come off but I'll not be putting the signs back on. Time for proper signage methinks......

my guess is the magnet attracts fine metal particles from the air as you drive about, which then rust below the magnet as it gets wet
