How many start and then quit?

a thread about cars got me thinking. in the 6 yrs iv been a windie i reckon iv seen DOZENS who started about the same time but have quit . some had sign written vans really smart ,website the lot Most in family saloon cars but then you suddenly dont see themwhy do they quit ? after a year or under

Money might be the main reason, the reason I say that is because the window cleanings I know who are raking it in, all want to give up, but cant.

Now I have started again I will never stop

Worst thing ever was leaving in the first place after 8 years

Im just back from holiday, no internet where I was on the Moray coast of scotland, so have missed the forum, saw this thread first and thought I have a bit of a view of the qu.

Going by my own experience, fell off my ladders after about a month in december, totally inexperienced and new to the job, which could be a reason why many give up soon, torn muscles, broken bones, brain damage. Had my shorts on for last two weeks and have my new scar to look at on my leg from the fall and pain everyday. This would be a big factor in someone staying in the job. A pal who is a very experienced trad windie, said most newbies fall off in first year, then fine for a while, then get complacent and fall again, granted this isnt the case with all though. It can be a dangerous job, so if people have families maybe they think windy cleaning is not worth the risk and get some less risky job and maybe more financially stable?

Although im still in my first year, im looking forward a bit to working again after two weeks off, from previous jobs im usually suffering from the holiday blues and dreading going back, but not so far, maybe feel like that tommorow.

Off to bed, early start:).

It seems to be the way..I know a few guys fallen in 1st year

Need to have your wits about you and never get complacent

I did once and rested my ladders on a wooden canopy over a front door to reach bathroom window with short trad pole

Guess what happened when the wood broke

All cos I thought "it'll be ok"

i fell too. i think whatever business you go into, when you are a lone wolf on the learning curve you risk your neck one way or another ,especially in the first year. if you set up as a van driver you end up working long nights so have the risk of falling asleep etc

theres an element of luck to it all .

Most people I know have only fallen the once

tends to make you a lot more carefull

Got a Facebook message last night can I quote for her and neighbour

Been round and is an estate of around 20 blocks of 3 storey flats

Knocked on a few and got quite a bit of work

local windie not interested apparently but can do a few quite quick

no wonder people struggle when they turn down lower paid jobs even though they are easy

Especially when the ground floor and 1st floor both want em doing

I tend not to take on low paid jobs myself either.

Out of a matter of interest how many 3 rd floor jobs did you get on those blocks of flats?

And the sad fact is some don't get a second chance as they are either killed or suffer from life changing injuries.

None..12 jobs ground and 2nd 7.50 each but didn't ask top floor

not till wfp sorted..gone are the days of doing town houses on my own..don't tend to walk away from a fall from there

£7.50 each but only 5 windows each and one of them is frosted bathroom one

Will knock on the rest of em tomorrow

Have a few roads round my area to canvass tonight

Funny how some areas round here have no windie but houses are no problem to do

I ain't fussy..won't turn down a job on price as long as it is a fair price for the job

I won't work for less than it's worth so a job is a job

On flats you just have to make sure you clean the right windows though /emoticons/biggrin.png

Yep and don't do my classic one

Clean 1st floor then neighbour above says can you do mine so I do it then have to do first one again cos of all the water dripped on it..lol
