what with all the new housebuilding going on thru out the land we are going to be rushed off our feet for donkeys years

Stevenage just seems a bit weird..some areas have a few windies some have none which is near my house luckily and no reason for it..straight forward 3 beds mostly and happy to pay a tenner without conny and a bit more with and a newer estate with mostly townhouses with no slopy first floor roofs

Hence the long ladders and ankalad

If a 3 bed is a tenner what would you charge the same size house with a 3rd floor?

i charge double for the 3 floor high stuff. very few windies do 3 storey ladders in my area in fact in my time as a windie i havent seen anyone at all

I have just set up a workin progress facbook page. I am a little confused as when I search it on google, t does not find me at all, so only way is if you have facebook and sign in and then find me, got my friend to do it and he said i was a little down the list, my other friend could not find me. Anyone have any advice, tips or inf on being found.

Also I want to print my flyers this week and how do i put the facebook page on the flyer in terms of lay out? do you have it as just search me on my business facebook on blah blah. ??

Thanks

Proper crapping it now, as equipment is on its way and i have set so much up, so out there now, going door kocking when the flyers and cards arrive to as you all say it works door knocking. I have friends waiting for me to fail, need to prove them wrong.

:lipssealed:

I have friends waiting for me to fail, need to prove them wrong.
Nice friends

My mates spread the word for me if they get an opportunity to recommend me

No wonder you've had success off that page @boarcity , its brilliant. I like the way that it shows your personality on the page, whereas websites can all be a bit sterile. Good job, I think I'll be starting one up too soon.

Yeah Dave, nice that aint it, good mates NOT.

AJ - I hae my FB and still can not find it on google, its been 4 days, maybe I jumping the gun. Odd. Made a free site too and its nice. Just need to figure out FB and where too look for custys now....

I take it on here most of you just do the following

flyer

door knock

FB

web site

word of mouth

local promotion papers cards in shops etc.

I am just getting jumpy now lol, i so do not want to get to a day where i hear the "told you so" that wuld be a bad bad day for me.

BTW question for yo all as your the people to ask, what are the best day/times to door knock? I would have said weekdays? Where has your sucsess come form?

you will be allrite scottie , dont fret. dont overthink everything, this is a very simple business , thats why a lot of us are doing it .

my opinion, just do a little bit of flyering, little bit of door knock, little bit of FB and dont spend much more than 1 hour on any and folk will take u up on it i promise u .

i spend about ten minutes each day on the local buy or sell FB groups in the towns i work putting my page or bumping up a foto of one of my workers that i previously put there . that works well and costs nothing apart from my time. and thats because iv 4 workers to keep busy but cos youv only yourself to think of so you wont need to spend as long as that on marketing.

you will be allrite lad

Boarcity - Thanks for that, its the prep I need, feel really ready for it now. Just been a horrid year where its all gone wrong and in big ways, but thats that. New start, skint but feel free for once, so yep going to blast it, I am on the FB now, no bloody selling sites round here really lol.

I hope your right and work does come in, its good to hear as you are an experienced pro in this, so its very inspirational to hear. Thank you very much. I will keep you all updated as yourself and others like daveyboy, cheap, smurf, duncs etc have helped me along alot. Spent a lot of time making it all professional just need to get out there now, lookign forward to getting my equipment. Can I ask does anyone else get excited about new equipment lol, if you asked me a few years back aboyt windy equipment I would have been like yeah ok. But love looking out for the new stuff and what I might be able to buy for the future, working my way up to water fed, although i think trad is special.

THANKS!

;)After 23 years i still get exited by a new squeegee

Must have a thing for rubber

Boar is right though

You can over think and over complicate this lark

I got my first few hundred quid of custys by having ladders squeegee and applicator and knocked on some doors

Facebook etc came after

If you go out looking you will find and then job done you're in business

Your right Daveyboy

On FB i can find selling pages but can not join them on my window cleaning page, but can on my personal one. do not get that, as se tup a fb then added a page for business as instructed by many peeps. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

a lot of us start out in window cleaning as a fresh start / after something in life went wrong big time -window cleaning reached out to us . its strange isnt it,why does it do that?

i dont mind admitting before i took up my squeegee i was homeless and on a crash n burn spiral after a family break up . i wasnt looking to be a window cleaner but then one day in town saw a windie smiling broadly as he drove by in a shiny old van. hey i Want to be like you i thought, all smiley and clean !

never seen him since i might add ,AND iv looked out for him many times ... lol

on FB you join the sell/buy groups as an individual on your personal page, then post your biz page or fotos of you smiling + squeegee ,under your own name .

H so you can not join any under your business profile? So join up as as scottie and then post saying hi I do window cleaning etc..and add a post with detials etc... Why is it so round about on FB lol. I thought you could jst join as your business page. do you have your persoanl page set up at all around your windows or keep it personal and just put up the links to the business page? Thanks for that

Cracking story that, so glad it worked for you mate, I hope I can follow in that manner.

thats right, u can only join the selling groups and post on them ,as an individual. not a faceless business . after a while FB will contact you ,to get you to promote your business page , if you pay ,it will pop up on peoples pages . i personally do that now and then but dont recommend it when youre starting out you should just need to get your face on the buy n sell groups and keep it there daily

Ok, firstly you can't join selling groups with your Facebook page. What I do is put a link to it on the selling groups Scotty.

In regards to door knocking, I got 20000 leaflets made up and concentrate on all the roads around my area first, then work out from there. Every job you get, ticket the whole street if you haven't already.

door knocking I was doing 7 days a week at the start, even on Sundays but not before 11 on Sundays as I'm considerate.

pricing, don't let the traditional or other window cleaners dictate your pricing, the majority of window cleaners have bought their rounds and their prices were already in place when they bought it. My pricing on most houses is 50% higher that most because they have been too scared to increase theirs.

All the window cleaners round this area do their Windows on a rotation system, whereas I have set days for my customers, people prefer structure and like to know when your coming, so all my customers get a text saying. REMINDER..,,A J WINDOW CLEANING SERVICES will be attending your property tomorrow. I use this method as customers can text me back if they are away or unavailable thus saving me fuel and time if they not in.

This is how I've set my buisness out and I tell them either 2 or 4 weeks, some want 8 but I don't offer if but accept if the insist.

This is my 14th week in buisness and I'm turning over 2k plus at the moment per month, but I have to work around my son also which restricts me, so you should be able to do a lot more and quicker if you put the effort in.

If your using pure water, take your meter with you and show them how clean your water is compared to what they drink, it's a good selling point. I also buy spray bottles from b and q for £1 and sell them to customers for £2 and tell them I'll refill for free so they can do their insides. Reason for this is, if their insides are also clean, it shows hoe good the system is and it's a good advertisement for us: )

Hope this helps you.

I started my working life on ladders roofing and window cleaning

Tried other careers and even got nvq's in microsoft excel/access etc and worked as stock and systems administrator for 2012 olympics

Windows is the only thing that makes me truly happy to go to work
