First off hi all im liam from sheffield, im totaly new to all of this but i am desperate for advice please! Basicly i work long hours in a foundry but my 4 yr old son has recently been diagnosed with asd and adhd so i am needing a bit more flexability in my working hours so i am thinking of starting a window cleaning round, but how do i go about it do i just start advertising around houses or do i need to buy a round? All in all i dont want to start turf wars or step on anybodys toes! Thanks in advance

Liam

How much do you rely on your income from the foundry? If starting window cleaning from scratch and jacking your job in you will have very little money coming in to start with. You could buy a round, if there's one for sale near you, but they ain't cheap. Also, have you ever window cleaned? Get some practice first before you make the decision.

Sorry about your son btw.

Tbh with my income from work i would be better off on jsa but thats not my bag id rather put the hours in and earn my crust the good old way! Iv got a little experiance cleaning windows but i would like to make it my job! Whats the best way to get trade, were i live theres lots of new build estate going up would it be worth pounding the streets and trying for business?

Turf wars are a thing of the past now so don't worry about that. It would be easiest to buy a round if available but cheaper & probably better to knock on doors/drop leaflets. Just make sure you don't underprice your windows because in long term you'll get fed up.

Iv looked into buying a round but theres not many near by were i live! Think im going to get some flyers printed up and do some walking! Just out of interest what is the going rate for houses?

greetings Liam prices vary depending on area

if you do good work and look friendly work will come in area you get houses from canvassing

good luck and theres plenty of info and people on here to help you

go for it! i am not to far away from you and people are always looking for window cleaners that do a decent job, we get a couple of window cleaners come over from sheffield to doncaster working regularly /emoticons/wink.png

The best way is to get knocking on doors

Take some ladders on your car and as soon as you get a yes clean them..then you already have some cash and a customer ready for next month.

I empathise with your reasons for wanting to do it..my son has aspergers (mild) and add (is on equasym)

The flexible hours are really handy

Cheers guys, iv made my mind up tbh i just need to know how to go about it all, pricing, how many houses to try and get also how to go about hmrc. Another thing is my books, accounts and if things took a dive could i claim anything?
