First time canvassing results.

yeh we have no cold calling signs around here....the law changed a few years ago and if a homeowner does have a no cold calling sign displayed in the porch it is against the law to disturb but of course actually getting any prosecutions is non existent.....

a lot say dont deliver leaflets etc....i take no notice of that....we deliver 500 mags every two weeks...

Criminal law?? Not a chance. The best the residents could do is go for a civil case, maybe trespass. Would they waste their time?

When I canvass, I just remember the, some will, some won't, so what.

I knock these doors just out of curiosity to see what reaction I get and most of the time people are ok I think sometimes its the do gooder neighbour who encourages the whole street to have these signs when really most aren't really bothered so take a chance and go for it lol

no for the law they must be on individual doors....it was on moneysupermarket.....

.as for the mags daveyboy1....bazzar...what ever that is...its a local rag that no one wants but...we get paid to deliver...but ...i have to be peed to deliver...and it costs as much to get me peed enough as i earn so not so sure what the point is....but...i can look for...dirty windows...and yes..i have had a few jobs off it so...it pays...not that i like doing it...well i think it works out at less than the min wage......

nahh but i found some very interesting pages on freeview...amongst the adult pages....just wish they would move the writing out of the way...ahh vicky...twerk away../emoticons/biggrin.png think its 173 on freeview..

There is an area exactly the same near me and I have heard rumours that it is easier to get business because most people are scared to knock on the door but I wouldn't do anything like that cos it might be naughty /emoticons/wink.png.Nor would I call on one of the doors asking them had they seen me last year cleaning one of their neighbours gutters and can they remember which one cos I have lost my notebook and offer to do theirs for a good price for their kind help whilst I'm there.Makes me laugh when I see the Multi millionaire Martin Lewis of Money Saving Expert'printed leaflets on front door saying"we do not accept cold calls from strangers"- he's made his pile and now wants legitimate business chaps to restrict theirs so he can wallow in his smuggery whilst bathing in champagne and wiping his backside on fifty pound notes.Whilst not accepting that it makes sense economically and for the environment to clean gutters /windows close together -a better price can be given for customers-wonder how many trees died for all the signs printed off his website? I wish the fellow well but stopping rogues and stopping small enterprise are different kettles of fish-that I am sure would be rod caught, organic, ethically sourced and substainable fish -rant over

In Devon we had those signs too. Normally a resident or neighbourhood watch bod would ring the police and say that there were door knockers and a police unit (if there was one available) would go and stop check them. Name, address date of birth, run a check on them to see if there was any previous convictions or local intelligence. Ask what they are doing etc. If there is nothing known about them they would be told to carry on.

If they are known to police or had previous convictions the chances are they would be asked to leave the area. I have removed a couple of wanna be window cleaners before now because one had convictions for burglary.

Interesting to know-effectively means signs are porkies

No cold calling zones, I do knock these and generally the only person that has an issue with it is the person who forced it thru, what I find is just tell the customers youve had quite a few calls from there and you dont want anyone missing out. Most people are fine just dont be pushy and take a no as a no. Generally people will encourage you and be pleased to see you

Diwrnach. I promise you, ignore the sign and carry on. Police put those signs up as a matter of policy. Some councillor has got one complaint and decided to have the whole area done.

Seriously, think about it. If you knock on a door and they're not happy, what are they going to do? Call the police and say 'someone offered to clean my windows, come at once and arrest them'.

Flippin heck, if we listen to signs like that, none of us would have jobs. I promise you nothing will happen. Give them my name instead of yours if they ask.

There are alot of old vulnerable ppl out there that get taken for a ride so this is the main reason why you will see these signs on lamppost. The Idea is to deter scumbags as they will know after seeing the signs there will be plenty of curtain twitches taking note of any strangers in the area.

Hi all,

Today I was out and I came across a no cold calling sign with some writting on it, no this no that. Can you still flyer? or is it just no knocking on doors? I left the roads as three in a row had them. Not sure and do not want to get people upset. Its hard to know what your allowed to do.

I don't think it is law. It is just a request from the house holder. The stickers have the local councils or a local police force logo on it to give it a perceived bit of clout.

I ignore them often, as they normally just want to stop the hard sell gas and electricity canvassers.

No one has ever complained to me when I've canvassed for win cleaning, and I've gots jobs from them.
