Hi guys,

I've been lurking on here so long I was thinking of changing my username to Gollum.

Just wanna give a big shout out to the guys on here with their advice and time to respond to complete newbies like me. It is well appreciated. Amazing how some of your posts even from years ago have influenced some of my decisions.

Life threw a few curve balls at me and i'm jumping in the deep end big time here as my options are limited and it's something I have been thinking of doing for a few years now and have always worked outdoors. Time to bite the bullet.

One post i read was something along the lines of get the biggest and best set up you can and don't look back.

So i bought a citroen dispatch (hat tip to tuffers if your reading) because it just made sense to me. And now my adventure begins.

I'm looking at getting a WFP van system in place, now I know the DIY route is best and cheapest but i'm about as handy as an ash tray on a motorbike. My question is has anyone any experience or word of mouth from Pure freedom? i'm thinking of going there and getting them to fit it. And is there anything on there DIY list that I don't really need but they might try and sell me?

All my posts won't be this long don't worry lol,

Guybrush.

Hello guybrush and good luck with your adventures in window cleaning:D

I have a pure freedom system fitted with a 400 litre tank its great

Hi awcs,

Thanks. Realised I should have posted this in announcements so I have double posted whoops.

I'm actually in the southeast so it's a bit of a trek for me but i've read in a few posts even after they have fitted there quite helpful with people phoning up and asking stupid questions (that suits me). I just want it done once and done right and if I did it I would probably end up with the tank in the front seat and poles on the roof lol.

Andy is good there, if you are going to them they like your van there for 08.30 in the morning and its normally done for 3.30pm the same day, they are always on hand to answer any questions!

That's good to hear awcs. Is there anything you wish you bought from them at the time or anything you bought that you didn't really need?

norm- I know it's crazy how you can get addicted to a window cleaning site. I keep thinking to myself I must have completely lost the plot. Think it's because theres a good community.

hi and welcome to the gang Guybrush...me likes you join the party....:balloondance:

Hi Tuffers and cheapncheerful,

cheapncheerful- is that a packet of skittles in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Thanks for the input awcs, I have taken note.

It ain't skittles, it's a banana

Cheers Duncs,

Had a lot of good feedback so quickly. I will arrange to go up Norf next week. Got some family in Grimbo so I can kill 2 stones with one bird.

I would suggest you remove the plylining off the floor, prepare (sand) the floor and apply a couple of coats of Protectakote before making the trip. Allow plenty of time for the coating the dry - I think they recommend about 48 hours before it can be put to light use but 7 days in cooler weather before full cure is reached. (PF used to suggest this as a time saving option due to the curing time.)

Whilst the process of filling the tank and cleaning windows is daunting to a newbie, it isn't that complicated once you work the process out. I would try to stay around the factory whilst they fit the unit and ask as many questions as you can whilst you are there. Visiting family/friends can be done the evening before or once you leave the factory with everything fitted. I won't let pleasure interfere with business if I were you.

I would also arrive there with a little fuel as possible in your tank. PF will probably have to 'drop' the fuel tank to fit the frame, so it would be helpful to them to keep this as lite as possible.

It would also be good to find out what your tap water TDS is and try to get an indication of water pressure and flow. This will help you decide if you need an r/o or not (you probably will if you are from down south), what r/o membrane (HF4 or HF5) if you are going for a 4040 r/o, and whether you will need a booster pump or not. (If you don't need a booster pump that will save you around £450 for the PF unit).

I would also not buy the pole PF sell as I would prefer a Gardiner SLX25 and brush to cover most of my normal daily work requirements.

I would also buy an intelligent battery charger for the leisure battery and in future add a split charge relay, even if you are doing limited daily mileage.

As we are heading toward winter you will also need to protect the r/o in the back of your van from freezing, so a good electric oil heater with frost protection is a must.

Hi Spruce,

That was the reply I was looking for.

I completely agree about mixing business with pleasure. One of the selling points for me with PF is I literally want to watch them install it and find out how it all works.

The TDS meter is in the post. If I let them know the meter reading will they advise me on the HF4 HF5, 4040 r/o because I don't have a clue about all that stuff.

My next question was going to be about the PF poles because out of the hundreds of posts i've read I got the feeling I should drop them for the many time recommended Gardiner SLX 25 and you have just cleared that up.

Intelligent battery charger/split charge relay? I must admit you've lost me there. Had a quick look on PF site and can't see one. Do you have a link to one? and should I tell them I will buy my own (if they can't supply)

Also can't find an oil heater on there. I'm glad you mentioned that because that would never have crossed my mind.

The tip about the fuel in the tank is legendary.

I was going to give the protectakote a miss, do you think it is a must have?

I done drainage for years and I was always flooding the back of the van

Thanks for the advice Spruce, very helpful.
