Ibc in garden shed

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Yeah I had to take metal cage and plastic pallet of mine to get it over my fence . The cage pulls apart in two pieces.

I found the wooden pallet ones much lighter to move about as was easy to lift whole by 2 ppl over the back gate. Downside to the wood pallet based ones they don't last so long.

If you're short if room, clad the outside with kingspan. Sounds crazy but it's done houses all the time. If you have electric on your shed, find a thermostat controlled radiator, to kick in at low temp. I used to live off a bore hole for water, pump house was sorted like this and coped with minus 15 degrees outside temp. Brrrrrrr.

As you all know, I'm a bit tight with my money .......but if you go to any of the builders merchants who stock/sell Kingspan/Cellotex Insulation Panels, they'll often have damaged ones which sometimes you can get for FREE /emoticons/wink.png or some may charge just a £1 or £2 a panel .

Thanks Bingo, good shout!

Was gonna ask you guys, I need to get power out to my sheds. I have a hole in the wall of the downstairs room that backs onto the garden (where sky put thier cable). I want to go from the plug socket in that room and tack the lead to the bottom of the fence. I know I need an "armoured" wire, but which one do I need? There's like a tonne on Screwfix.

I never mess about with electrics myself so best you speak to a qualified electrician as you will need light & power sockets put in the shed.

My dad was a sparky so i have picked up a fair bit of knowledge

Go from the socket indoors

If you can get it the yellow plastic tubing the gas people use is very good

I fed my cables through it wired direct from the fusebox from a spare circuit and buried the cable down the lenth of the garden then put the turf back over it

Double socket and lights in there

Have to get a sparky friend to inspect it and sign it off if going from fusebox or house insurance won't pay out for an electrical fire claim

have you thought of covering tank with the blocks of 2inch insulation , the ones they are now using to cover the front of the houses now, insulation. its like a foam base but solidish., you should be able to buy from builders merchants, or look online for exterior insulation.

i take it this is your first year.

is the tank too big for water to freeze in this country, just worry when you see the weather reports reporting -0 degrees

Take a spur off another socket? Workout out what you're gonna run in the shed, and the consumption of existing circuit, power tools etc. come off existing leccy with oven cable, wack it in alkathene pipe, bury 18" and put electric warning tape a few inches above. Happy days.

Thanks guys, think I'm gonna see if I can use Kingspan and a small oil heater in there. On another note, I need to get my IBC over the fence but the fence panels on my garden don't look like they are easily taken off... any idea on what I can use to lift it over (other than a load of people). It's by an alleyway which is quite wide so I could get something down there to lift it!
Hacksaw through the nails holding the fence panel to the post. You will need just a hacksaw blade only so you can slide it in the gap. Remove panel, lift IBC through and nail the board back after using galvanised nails

My ibc is in my unheated garage and have never had any issues even when it dropped to -12 or whatever the other year, the submersable pump will be safe, think about it......the ibc would have to freeze solid to get the pump!!!! Thats a cube of water that weighs a ton freeezing solid, not in this country, the worst that would happen is it would freeze the top few millimeters of water like in puddles etc, as for filters i mounted mine onto a wooden board which hooks onto the metal frame of the ibc, when its cold enough i just unhook it and keep it in the understairs cupboard or kitchen. So if i were you i would just make sure you're filters are protected by your own method

I do use a thermostat controlled tube heater in my trailer to protect the pump and di though its alot smaller and more succeptable to freezing up.

Spur can work as long as it is within a certain distance from the socket it is spurred off, I forget the regs for it now though (not been on the tools for over 10 years).

I would go from the circuit box myself and put a little one in the shed, then wire everything from that, and either bury armour cored cable or use some really good conduit if going underground.

It does need signing off by a registered sparky though as daveyboy1 says.

The way I am doing it is to get one of those small floating pond heaters and drop that in there.

Quite a few posts....

I'll start by saying, I'm not fussed about the IBC it's just the small pipes on the RO etc freezing (and the hose to the RO but I can get some of that stuff to cover that I guess). Keir, that's not a bad idea - I guess I only need the RO wired up every few days so it's no big deal for me to carry it out and mount it again. Or perhaps I could just put the RO in a box and insulate the box...

With the electric, I rent so I can't go too into one and bury cables etc. Also where I'd run the cables is water pipes, the outside tap and two drains so it's got to be tacked up.

johnny my tds is 200+ and my van is too small for tank (with my gutter vac etc), hence I do barrels and backpacks.

Tuffers, my fence is different to that - it's concrete posts with little latches in that the fence sits inside (hard to explain) I might take a photo in a bit! /emoticons/smile.png

Luckily I have my RO mounted inside with the pipe going through the wall into the barrel /emoticons/smile.png

Do you use your in house water supply then?
My RO is set up in the downstairs bathroom, bolted to the wall above the toilet, taps into the sink water supply, and also uses the sink waste supply, then there is a hole in the wall under the sink that goes to the side of the house which is a fair bit lower than the bathroom, so it goes straight into the top of a water butt /emoticons/smile.png

Good idea about insulating a box with the filters inside, here's a pic of my detachable filter board.

Hope it helps?
