Just after some advice.

I bought a couple of cheap 11l DI vessels off of eBay a while ago. Now I'm wondering if they were cheap for a reason cos my resin doesn't seem to last very long compared to Gardiner's calculator.

Does the quality of the riser and head make a difference in this regard or is it a case of if it works it's fine?

Thanks for your help.

Also, do you have the flow of the water going in the correct direction? There should be a sign on the threaded part saying 'inlet' and 'outlet'.

Hi Tuffers, thanks for the advice.

My tds was about 80 but has recently shot up to 150 so I know I'll be using resin much faster than before but I still don't get anywhere close to Gardiner's resin calculator.

I have definitely got the inlet and outlet the right way around. The tap water enters at the top of the vessel through a small mesh filter, makes its way through the resin to the bottom of the vessel and up the riser through a conical plastic filter.

Any other ideas? Cheers

You say you bought 2 vessels. Are you using them together, ie tap > vessel > vessel. How much water are you making? How long is the resin lasting, if you're using just 1 vessel? How fast is the water going through the vessel? I tend to trickle the water through, it takes maybe 2 hours to get say 400L of pure.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the resin "calculator". Different resins brands & types perform differently with different water content anyway. The fact your input tds has risen near on 100% is the probable cause if nothing else has changed i.e. you're using the same brand resin that you normally do.

Tuffers is correct in the fact that the slower the flow through a resin vessel- the better the resin will perform. This is the reason that I have my two vessels on the van- I fill my tank with tap water & pump though the vessels as I use water (on demand filtration).

I have been DI only for over ten years & have tried virtually every combination of everything DI/resin wise- trust me, a Yorkshire man living in Scotland- they don't come much tighter than that!!/emoticons/biggrin.png I find Tulsion MB115 the best resin & have been using it for some years now. I recently tried various others again & none of them matched Tulsion for me.

Also, give your vessels a swirl before running water through them if poss, probably not easy if you have them in your van, but if like me, they're in the garage, I will swirl them to get rid of any channels the tap water may have created in the resin.

I use two 11Ltr vessels in my van. I fill the tank with tap water (tds 60ish) and pump it through the vessels on demand.

I change one pot every 7 weeks (I allow it to read 002 before change) and use 400 ltrs a day on average.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yep, my input TDS is 90ppm, using the same amount of water I get approx 5 weeks per fill of 11ltr vessel.

Do you guys work 5 days a week? If so that's 2000l per week. I'm getting about 1600l before I get a tds reading of 1ppm through my second di (yes I'm using twin di).

Thanks for the other advice too but I'm already doing all of it. I use tulsion 115 and I swirl it round before use and I run the mains slowly.

I'm thinking either my resin is off or my vessels are duff.

I can get about 7500L minimum before it starts to creep up with a TDS of about 050PPM. There was a thread on another forum where people were thinking they had duff resin. I've bought my last 2 lots from an aquatics store. It's lasted very well and it was slightly cheaper than elsewhere too.

I don't think so mate. Once I'm finished with them I just disconnect the hoses and store them until they're needed again. I don't drain them off or anything.

How full are you filling the vessels with resin?
About 3/4 full. Just below the start of the curve of the bottle.

My bottles are fat too, not the usual thin 11l vessels, more the shape of a demijohn. Don't know whether that makes a difference?

HI timbeam, my tds had gone from 084 to around 120, I use a a 11ltre vessel, the resin was quite new, but tds coming through 002- 004, ended up getting a 19ltre vessel of ebay 2nd hand, no problems so far with that alone 000, so I wasnt sure if my 11ltr vessel was having issues or if its cos reading was above 100 tds? thankfully my water tds has gone back down to again 084. Im not a high user of water, but its always a pest when you dont know the exact cause of an issue. I have found as well as swirling the vessel, sometimes I've found if the tds is up, turn the water off then turn up the water pressure a fair bit, then it comes out 000, maybe sorts channels out inside? Warning- I dont recommend any of my advice:) as too much of a newbie still. I'm using spectrum resin just now, but will be back on to tulsion after its done.

Thanks for advice guys.

I'm definitely not running water too fast, takes about an hour to do 200l. I think it's most likely my resin from the comments made so far.

I've purchased a 450gpd ro now anyway so that should solve it.

Can i ask you guys if you have any water leaking from your di bottles, i mean 2 bottles mean 4 connections, i had to put mine in a bucket, although not leaking atm. do you use hozelock connections?
