Ladder safty - what are you using currently using and recommendations

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I will sort wfp trolley eventually but i enjoy trad

Most awkward windows can be done with a bit of thought

Interested in wfp mainly for conny roofs, fascias etc

I would get a foottheladder or something just for the iffy ones seeing as ankalad won't fit

Don't worry about ladder slipping sideways..slipping back is more likely

Just don't over reach

If i have a big bunch of windows i will put the ladder in the middle and do half with right hand and half with left to save over reaching and moving ladders unnecessarily

Ladder mits. Never go up a ladder without them. Can stop you sliding down & sideways & protect customers ledges.

Stabiliser on the bottom is also a must with me.

Not sure if ice will be much of an issue with WFP, how often is it below zero in the day time? not very is my guess.
Many times I've gone out in winter & the Temp has not got above freezing. Water just freezes on the windows.

Whta stabaliser do you use? I need mits, I need to see what ones are good and get some asap. Cheers

get a wfp trolley to do tops and trad bottoms. I use trolley for anything dodgy got a pole off eBay and trolley from wcw for £400. Ladders shouldn't slip check the ground if its green or slippy under foot give it a miss watch for decking which is lethal when wet or green!

you will get a feel for ladders, obviously don't put yourself at risk but time is money fitting loads of accessories on and off takes time.

many old timers about up ladders without all these safety gizmos.

also have mates who swear by ladder spikes as they grip the tiniest of crevices.

if you know a local windie ask if you can go out with them b4 you start on your own pick up on how they work ask few questions.

Must admit I have not used any ladder safety devices so far, just a ladder and good footing for it.

WFP in my opinion is easily the best ladder safety device.

It actually went quite well, it was hammering it down with rain all day, so only got out maybe 100 flyers, if that, and got 5 new customers off the back of it, only 3 did the window tick thing though. But early days yet hard to make a judgement off so few flyers.

I'll go out again Saturday, hopefully without the rain /emoticons/smile.png

The one that goes along the bottom of the ladder. Same as a rung really but sticks out 5-6 inches either side of the ladder with rubber/plastic feet on it

Tiled side walls & tiled bays I hate resting on even using a microlite standoff as is so easy to break a tile.

Oops! there goes another one /emoticons/biggrin.png

Pic of mini standoff in actionJust keeps it away from sills and is just big enough to rest on fascia to check out a gutter

I would use microlite to work on a gutter bit to have a peek it is ok

Lovely georgians i did this morning

I deffo will use a stand off. I have a abru ladders, trade, m8rix and stand off, i think thats an ok set up for newbie. I dont no what else I can add or is there anything I should add, half the windys he just have a ladder end of.

I not sure when I would feel ok doing gutters, it seems so far off normal upstair windows, your not that high really as your feet are well below the window, just the use of those min stand offs for gutters scare me lol. Maybe in time I might get confident and do gutters, then I would have to come here ask Smurf what I need to buy /emoticons/smile.png smurf runs.....

I have no problem falling off ladders but it's the sudden stop at the end that hurts like hell /emoticons/biggrin.png

I added a Hunter Stabilising System to my ladders. It does add extra weight, but you feel safe. You are also compliant with H&S regs even on your own.

That looks good but you need a lot of room to set that up properly surely?

After saying that I've found the ankalad brilliant but does have it's limitations too. That's why sometimes I may need to use another type of ladder stabiliser also on the bottom to prevent the ladder slipping back when I can't set one or both of the outriggers properly.

Better safe than sorry and all that.:)

Couldn't fit that in the small spaces i can get the ankalad up in
Actually, the picture makes it look more of a problem than it is. Apart from the ladders, there are only 2 points that touch the ground - the 'feet' of the stabilisers. And they only take up a small space. I have been able to put this between plant pots, trees, oil tanks etc as you can maneuver the arms a bit to fit in the spaces. Also, they are independent, so if you are beside a wall, then you only need to extend one. The other stays up against the side of the ladders.

Smurf i see youre using the laddermats - be aware they have zero grip on damp ground. [i fell the full drop]in fact you would get the same effect if you greased a house brick and shoved that under !

note- once laddermats give way, they keep sliding on . i bleve mine slid 10 feet+

as my ladder + me crashed to the ground . bent my ladder rungs ,nearly broke both shins [ luckily id been doin a lot of road running as a hobby at that time,so my shins were harder than normal] also smashed my Boab as i landed on it
