HI,

Not posted for a while due to one thing and another, part of that is a house move (in with the mother in law as she's old and Ill!). The new road hasn't had a windy for over a year, I don't know why but there are plenty in the area so I'm thinking of trying to take it on, do any of you do your own road and is it more hassle because the neighbours feel they know you and can take the pee a bit more? The thought of being so readily available puts me off a bit but I reckon at worst I could get a days work out of it at best a week without needing the van! What would you do?

Cheers

Ryan

yeh you hit the nail on the head i did not want to do the neighbors as they are just too close....but originally i told everyone i was a builder but ....you cant break wind around here without everyone knowing...and so...i was drafted in to do em...

i deliver magazines around here as well and fifty percent have dirty windows...but i am not quite ready to do them....yet

so far i have just five..it is handy...sometimes...your car breaks and ...it has to go to the garage...and there you are...its all money at the end of the day..

of course as with all my custys...i try to dodge em and do em when they are out...a lot easier with your

neighbours./emoticons/biggrin.png

Why not just give it a go and see for yourself … After all if they want a window cleaner it might as well be you than someone else.

I do my street..200+ houses in my road and i got about 17 jobs so far

1 neighbour took the pee and i dropped him but sorted now and he pays on time

I do both next door neighbours

I kind of know I should go for it but the mother in law has been here 40 years and they all know everything about everyone which sort of puts me off. On the other hand I know that because of that they will trust me, it's just the being so close that bothers me.

yeh but will they pay my new smurfy prices....thats double for a first clean.../emoticons/biggrin.png

well one has left me the money tomorrow in the milk box hope i get there first...and is it the £6 i want or £5 the others pay....and how much to dismantle a concrete coal bunker and remove...always work heading my way...

If I can get double bubble then they're on! Lol.

I'd be guaranteed at least a few quid out of it and I know I'd kick myself if someone else got it despite my feelings towards it. I think I'll canvas and see how it works out, would be perfect for a saturday morning or two and if I get s*** I'll dump them. Besides I can always dump them later on. Will just make it clear that I only talk shop between certain hours.

i went to do a mates opposite on friday and was hoping to dodge all the neighbours...i saw strange girl head off for her walk and thought i was safe but no...she came back too soon...and she was soon talking to me over the wall....but i had virisoled the frames and so i said i had to go and wash it off as master smurf had told me they will turn orange if i dont...

and then the one opposite caught me ....i have a flat battery do you have any jump leads.....er...no...er...well the son does but i am not getting dragged in as i realise that jump leads are not enough to start a car you need a running car and guess who she would expect to go....

i made it around the back to safety....not so keen on working in my street but...i do know the safe times.../emoticons/biggrin.png

You know what they say? business is business, and love is Bullsh*t, so just as long as you quote proper prices, and don't do any 'Favours', you should be OK. I used to do my neighbours and many in my village to my great loss. I stopped after a couple of years. Now I only do one who asked me back with an offer I couldn't refuse (was £11, now £20).

I gave up working in my street too as the buggers kept snuffing it. Plus the houses where a pain in the **** to do the backs anyway /emoticons/biggrin.png

I do 1 around the corner from me about 3 houses away, and 1 neighbour and someone from my gals nursery I just card them as normal if not in and get paid online and when I see then we never talk about windows just usual neighbourhood rubbish , I recomend it really and I find because you know them there less likely to take the mick

I never give cheaper prices for my neighbours

In fact i quoted the guy 2 doors down a tenner for first and subsequent cleans he said you sure that's enough for the first clean as they are really filthy

Nearly fell over as that's not what people usually say

I do my neighbours. Normal pricing, no hassles. I don't like doing my own village though. I enjoy the drive to my first job in the morning and the one home again.

Thanks all, found out today that the last windy was charging 2 quid more than I was thinking of, luckily I didn't give anyone a price! I've agreed to do the 4 old dears my mother in law is friendliest with and I'll pick up the others as I go along.

I'm going to use them as an area to train up my lad so he can earn a few bob on a Saturday.

Well done ryan. I am sure it will work out fine. Just make sure you price as you would anywhere else and you price increase in the same manner as well......it can be difficult with people you know well

Not difficult

People need to understand the difference between business and pleasure

My mate is a cabbie

I can't ride in his cab for free/cheap as he needs to feed his family

People tend to forget us windies need to do the same

Even my good neighbours pay full price
