Gutter vac tubes!

I've had customers and even passers by in the past playing tug of war with me trying to separete poles stuck together. /emoticons/biggrin.png

Best way to try first is flush the poles through with a hose then try twisting them apart. If that falls then play tug of war which can be quite fun

Yep i went through a game of tug of war today with them, i thought with them being carbon there would be less chance of them sticking together (i was wrong) oh well it was a learning curve with a few strong swear words /emoticons/biggrin.png

It's the fine particales of tile grit that makes them stick together and there is not much that you can do to stop it happening.

On the bright side, if all this was easy, there would be no work, or no money to be made anyway

Actually there is a way...they got stuck on the job I was separating them with big clamps. Now I use vaseline on them or any kind of grease and no more problems.

or talc...assuming its put on dry...works great on banana anyway..

for undoing stuck poles pour a kettle of boiling water on one and it wlll expand more than the other...I use that on a lot of stuck plastic downspouts over the years../emoticons/biggrin.png

and of course as you probs have to ask the custy for it....dont forget to have your cup

in your other hand. ..

As carbon tubes are tapered if they are forced together too much they get stuck. Best thing to do to prevent this is to slot them together so they are snug but not too tight then wrap some electrical tape around the male section right up to where they join. Should help them not to get forced together too much. I ended up breaking an old fishing pole over my knee when two sections got stuck together as I couldn't get them apart and i'd had enough trying!!!

Twist, jiggle and pull to get them apart. I use ali poles and don't have that problem any more. How? (1) keep them clean (2) keep the ends lubricated. I use white lithium grease. You get it in spray cans, and does a much better job than silicon spray IMO. Vaseline sounds like a good idea too.

The omni aerospace t1 ali guttervac poles I use are part telescopic meaning are made up of 2 size diameter poles per section. This means the smaller poles slides inside the larger ones so can be clamped into any position/length I want. Downside is they are still heavy on acute angles and above 2 storey height especially when crud sticks to the inside of the poles. Being part telescopic I would not be able to grease them because the clamps would not work. All I can do is make sure the poles are kept clean but they still can get stuck when I go to split them down.

I have the same type with clamps and they do work with grease.if you use clamps and tight them up grease is not a problem.they will not slide out from each other.

Thanks but will that not attract more fine particles of tile grit to stick more having the poles greased as the larger ones need greasing on the inside of the pole?

I put grease on larger ones and also on the smaller.yes dirt stick but at least I do need to **** about with them 40 minutes like last time lol

I can just see you now trying to taken them apart...I bet you lost it too /emoticons/biggrin.png

I wanted to pack up after gutter job and I had to go to custys neighbours garage.two blokes fighting with big poles and vaseline on the driveway
