As of 2 weeks ago I decided it was time to employ someone full time as my workload had become almost unmanageable on my own. So now most of my days are half days now, which is giving me the time to do more canvassing again Or sit on my backside: )

Commercial work is starting to come in gradually through word of mouth too.

I know a window cleaner who took someone on before and said it more trouble than it worth.
The lad who I've taken on I've known for 20 years, I made the mistake of taking someone I didn't know prior. He lasted 2 days before I got rid. No complaints with my mate, he's up to my speed nearly in just 2 weeks and has added customers to our workload already.

The fella that works with me and has done for 5 years is fantastic.

i'm thinking of taking someone else on also . ive got a feeling it might be a bit of a nightmare getting the right person. You need to have so many attributes as a window cleaner. You need to be friendly, hard working, fit, honest and reliable. Not too many people out there like that.

Do you pay him well? Does hes not think he could make more money working for himself?

That's always the problem. I pay him 32% of the daily take(I make 68%) . All he does is clean windows . I do everything else and pay for everything. He has a hassle free life and still gets a reasonable wage. That's always gonna be the biggest problem if you take someone on theres nothing stopping them from working for themselves.

I never work for a window cleaner before but if I did I couldn't help but think I could earn more working for myself if I did.

It depend on the person really, some find being your own boss is too scary and like security.

Years ago when i was subbing off a guy he had 8 or 9 guys all happy to turn up get their work and go off cleaning

No collecting and getting a tenner an hour

They were doing 20 quid an hour worth of work so the quick guys could do 3 hours work in 2 and claim 3 hours work

Some were doing well for themselves with no grief

Personally i subbed his excess work off him and paid him 20% so i would make 160 from 200 of work and still wasn't happy not getting all the cash for myself

when you get gd guy canny go wrong so much easier , hope i never have to graft on my own much

the lad i,ve got now is the best i,ve had works hard no hasle

If I was going to do it in this game I would make sure I was working with them like boarcity does, not sending them out on there own.

id love to be able to trust them to go on their own but as im often having to gee them up to go the distance,go the extra mile as it is, i know i never will trust them off on their own

The guy who i subbed off had the right idea

His full timers were paid on performance

expects £20 ph work so if you did £30 ph you could charge him for the extra hours you didn't actually work

But drag your heels you are actually working longer than you are being paid for

only the other month i took on a lad fresh out of jail, gave him the fresh start he so craved . but soon he was picking fights on the street , so i let him go

last week on my way home i see a car snakin across road towards me , surely a garyboy type im thinking . guess what, its him , driving with no licence - some folk never learn

Well done boar for giving him a chance

In all honesty i was one of them wronguns when i was a lad

Luckily the army sorted me out but not all young lads have something like that to change the path they are taking and need someone to give them a break

If you watch the old police stop videos you will see one with a white nova with the passenger holding their staffie out the door while throwing loads of speed out the car

Well the night before i was smoking a joint in the back of another knicked car with the 2 of them

1 jumped bail for sentencing for another offence about 6 years ago and not seen him since the other is now a fireman with a good family setup and nice house

Just need to make 1 wrong choice to send you down a wrong path

i remember that vid davey ! id think young lads all crave to be in a stolen car

the lads that work for me dont do drugs far as i know , i dont know the slang anyhow so it goes over my head when theyre chattin

tho my ears pricked up recently when i heard ket mentioned - "hes a kethead" had me swivellin round to see who was/is . luckily they were pointing at some irk walking by

Well done for giving him a chance!

Like Daveyboy said sometimes you just need someone to give you a break.

My employer recruited me one year ago while I was sleeping rough. Unemployed for 4 years. Seven months sleeping at the airport.

Once they offered me the position my HR director called me saying I was now part of the"family' and to feel free to call him if I faced any problem with accommodation. At the time was in a salvation Army hostel.

Some folks never learn...( they will one day!) But you know you have done a good thing.

Once again well done.::):

Nice one fab

Good to see someone has been given a chance in life

My problem was the guys i grew up with

going out on all nighters on the illegal rave scene as i have been 6ft2 since the age of 12 and buying beer since 14 so was all night raving on a school night

taking as many "disco biscuits " as i could

Then got into coke etc

Very destructive path to go down

Luckily i have never been a sheep and decided to change my life around before it was too late

Even in the army i liked the jamaican roll ups and still went to the odd rave

Not touched anything for 15 years now but it still has a mental hold on me due to my addictive personality
