Stop competing on price!!!

I can't imagine why any tradesman would rib another tradesman for being pricey, it should be the other way round.

I've had my fair share of ribbing too on here but hey that's not my problem if ppl want to undersell their services just to win work.

There is no right or wrong price really as long as the customer and more importantly yourself are happy with the price. The problem is as I see it if not careful you could easily end up running around like a headless chicken with plenty of work but not making enough money to pay the bills.

but you must pay a good price to have"top dog" clean your windows......yes i wish i was like my dad....then i would live in a nice house like he does......

Price I find is not really an issue when new customers know they will be getting a quality service/job.

As for example I did one quote to clear & clean the gutters and fascias (front only) on a 3 bed detached today for £80 plus also £30 labour to fit hedgehog gutter guard that the lady had bought herself and wanted me to fit. I then went to quote another gutter clear and clean on another house which I quoted £250. Both quotes were accepted and booked in the diary whilst I was there. It took me less than half an hour to get £360 worth of work booked in from just two quotes. When I got home I also booked in another small patio clean I’ve already seen for £100.

I love going out meeting ppl and giving quotes and all but to be honest I’m not so keen on doing the manual labour bit afterwards /emoticons/biggrin.png

i wish i had your energy smurf....i cleaned a great friends house today who is a full time general builder and he came back whilst i was there and shared a cuppa and then went on to point up about ten patio flags with leftover cement in his dinner hour and then back to work...he starts at 8.30 till late and is always on the go, guess i just be born lazy....roll on formula one weekend...

I wised up a while ago to be different than just being the run of the mill window cleaner doing loads of houses a day just to earn a days wage as there is good money to be had in exterior property cleaning. As I have mentioned many times before most customers already have a regular window cleaner but don't offer the services and quality of work for whatever reason that I do.
What the lad said in the vid you have to find a way be different to set you appart from the rest to make a business grow whatever that may be.
I agree Smurf,

We clean windows predominantly, then offer gutter cleaning, house wash, water blasting (light jobs) and gutter guard installation.

You might have a good window cleaner but will he wash your house and gutters?

You might have a house wash guy but what do your windows and gutters look like after?

I find its a great point of difference

Myself I prefer to have a very small select window cleaning round so I can spend more time on exterior property cleaning

That is what I do but many custys are after cheap cleaners and at the end of the day you need to be competitive otherwise custys will not want to pay double to check whether you are good or just expensive

Really?.... I dont have that problem myself

I wouldnt want too many of them exteriour cleans as I have never worked as hard these last few days...I am soooooo glad to just get back on the windas....

but ...the money was great.....but I will see that bloody cladding in my sleep tonight for sure...

okay..when I looked back at it all clean...I was kinda proud.../emoticons/biggrin.png

but hopefully not for a long time the next one...

I more expensive than all the window cleaners in my area,.................it is true. I try to have less customers at a higher price and it works for me. I priced a small barn conversion yesterday. (It took 30 mins wfp) I quoted £40 and watched her face. She nodded slowly in contemplation before affirming that she would have it done every 8 weeks. Her last window cleaner (wfp) went once and never returned. This annoyed her very much as she mentioned it on the phone and again during my visit. He/she never returned calls or emails. He/she charged just £20.

When I finished the job her grown up son came out and paid me saying, 'I told mother you get what you pay for and the other lot were too cheap to be doing a proper job'

I know pricing various across the uk, but don't work for nothing.

I started last year. I soon found out I was the most expensive in the area. But I didn't budge on pricing. I have a heavy streamline pole a trolley and work from my estate car. Today I ordered I nice light slx 25, a 350 litre tank and tomorrow I'm looking at vans. The only week I have not picked up a new custy was Christmas. I turned my phone off. There's no need to be cheap. Just do a good job and charge a fair price and bide your time.

The way I look at is if I wanted to run around like an idiot 9-5 5 days a week just to get by I might as well get an employed job.

I got into this to earn more work less and build something to retire on. Im only starting out and im turning custies down who want cheap. Im not expensive I average 12 quid a house but as soon as my rounds full I will be increasing prices. If youre continually growing and charging more or working less then your not realising your full potential

Myself I'm not interested in getting big but don't like working that much either. Hence why I'm always pushing the bounders price wise on what I can get away with.

Charge more for doing less.....that's what all the big boys do

My plan is the same but if you hit customer with much higher price in the first quote they will not want you so you cannot build round.I turned few custys down as well,I know my lowest rate And I will not be competing on price alone but what I am saying is that if You ask funny money you will not build your round at all.

Unfortunately regarding window cleaning many people see it as a low cost service and don't want to pay much. That is down to joe public having been price conditioned by really cheap prices over the years and in some areas of the country is alot worse than others.
