Stop competing on price!!!

The trick is to find the ppl that are willing to pay a decent rate for a decent job and not go down the route of competing on price..

That is the problem.I could not win few because thay said 'our last window cleaner did it for 7' not suprising that he is no longer their window cleaner

Most of custys understand that once I do something for them but first they need to call me and accept my price without knowing that I do not cut corners.

Are you on facebook?

I know smurfs opinion but i find it works for me due to a lot of good recommendations on there

And as soon as anyone on the local facebook groups asks does anyone know a good windie the link to my page gets posted straight away by about 8 people who have also left me very good reviews

By the time most windies reply i have already spoken to them in private and quoted them

Not yet.I am busy with the painting so I want to focus on that for now but I quess I could fit few windows here and there.

My plan is the same but if you hit customer with much higher price in the first quote they will not want you so you cannot build round.I turned few custys down as well,I know my lowest rate And I will not be competing on price alone but what I am saying is that if You ask funny money you will not build your round at all.
I take the hit on first cleans, i dont charge more for those. Im not saying a daft price, just a price that you WANT to earn in the long run, not a price that you think is all you can get. I canvassed two houses in the same street last week similar size, quoted a tenner, one said no way last cleaner did them at 6 quid ill do myself, other sad next door is paying 18 quid and bit my arm off!

Personally would rather build slower and get better prices, i suppose it depends how desperate you are for work, i have part time employment so whilst i want to get out of that asap is not a must for me to take work at any cost.

I noticed you are trying to increase the content of this site Gav. How about an article about pricing aimed towards customers? It could serve well to draw people to the site, increase the customers awareness of what we do, and also give noobs an idea of what they should be charging for the different services. Just an idea.
Yer many need to come to terms we are nearly in 2016 not 1996 I here £6-8 a house come on alright if you still live your mum and give her £20 a week !!

im in west yorkshire.

prices round here are as little as a fiver, i am averaging £12 which is good going for up here, i would like to push that average up a bit over time.

my prices are roughly £12 for a 3 bed semi, a 4 bed detatched with conny £16, small terrace £8, although i only have about 5 jobs under a tenner tbf

Maybe her old window cleaner stopped being her windie in 1975? Go less often and charge more /emoticons/wink.png

She is trying to get you to go lower

If her old windie charged 4.50 and still does the neighbours why is she looking for a windy??

Alarm bells a ringin

Thats a good point daveyboy, if her old windie is still doing next doors then why is she even looking elsewhere? If she wanted the other one back she'd of gone and got him already. Clearly she doesn't, tell her how amazing your service is etc and thats why your more expensive. Tell her to take it or go get her old windie back cos you ain't bothered either way, that kind of blase attitude seems to be working wonders for Jake! /emoticons/biggrin.png

The price is always the price, i get this regular though, then occasionally i get one that says "thats fab when can you do them" and it lifts the demoralization lol

Agree - sounds like it could be old school bartering to me.

Think I have mentioned this before but my dad will ask how much something is an then offer 50%............then negotiate from there.

It can be extremely embarrassing but I've always understood it to be a generation thing.........at least in Cumbria anyway /emoticons/smile.png

So yeah - she could just be seeking to get you to lower your price.

yeh she could be, but i tend to quote my lowest price upfront. i might try going in high next time then backing down to my lowest if needed. might even get the odd one at a daft price

I don't want any customer that resents me earning a reasonable wage.

Minimum prices are worth having too. For instance I had a woman ask me if I could just do the upstairs and she do downstairs. Why would I drive to hers, pull off the ladders, invoice etc any less when the bottoms are the quickest and easiest to do. So I told her we are only talking the difference of a pound or so, and explained why. She went with the full clean in the end.

People will try all sorts of things to save money, the key is to not fall for the tricks. To them its just a 'little white lie', but for us its food on the table.
