Hi all, been browsing for some time now, and thought it's only polite to say hello and what a great forum this is! So here is my story: please keep awake.

I'm Currently a Black Cab Driver (suburbs/NOT all London) and outgoings are so high, to compete with Mini Cabs/ to many drivers not enough work 12/14 hours a day just to make ends mea, and failing! Blah blah blah... looking at this forum I see that a lot of "windies" are going down the wfp route. As I haven't got a great deal of money to start up I feel trad is best for me (for now anyway) - or would u suggest I invest in backpack trolley to start with?

..I Haven't got no experience of window cleaning but willing to learn, ( my windows at home have never been washed so much) and I know it can be very rewarding at times and hard also hard at times. I don't want to give my cab up just yet as I have a family to feed etc. But looking to get out there and knock on doors asap. Ive got the chat that doesn't bother me.. Just need a bit of advise on where to go with it all, I've bought myself a squeegee/ mop /bucket etc, and watching endless videos of wc techniques (while sitting in the rank for endless hours).. Should I invest in an extendable pole (for squeege and mop) if so how many foot.

One of my friends is designing me a flyer to then get printed and go out door knocking. I know fB and twitter look like a good way of getting customers but door knocking is key!! I don't have a van as of yet, interested in getting one in the near future. I've just got a few questions I'd like to ask?

1) ladders - what ladders would you recommend (haven't got a van yet so light as possible)

2) when would I need to let hm know that I have started/starting another business.? (Not taken a penny as of yet anyway)

3) with FB, how can I get customers? What's the best way to get customers round local areas.

4) when canvassing for work? would u be honest and say that you have recently started a window cleaning round, or would u say you have been doing wc for a while? Blah blah..

5) my mate prints t shirts so thought it would be a good idea to get logo printed on them while doing canvassing? - or does this look to "newbie"

Sorry for boring you all, have a lovely evening. And a profitable week...il be posting to let you know my progress

Ryan

Ps. Im in essex

Tshirts are good to have

Don't tell people you just started or anything just say I'm working round the corner/up the road etc do you need a window cleaner..put your belt with tools on and look the part

Hmrc you have to notify within 3 months of starting

Facebook i made a business page from my normal account..then search swap and sell sites/local groups in your town and copy link to your page and post it on them with a "professional window, Gutter and conservatory cleaning

Call for a quote

One off or regular cleans " type message

I don't know about ladders as my ones are about 35 kilos with all the standoff and ankalad on it so not very light

good luck and keep us informed...

Welcome Ryan, get pricing right for your area, be safe if you havent used ladders before, get practicing at home, alot. If possible, keep the cab going for rainy days? Enjoy the forum. All the best:thumbsup:

edge of london eh, then ur really laughing. with all those houses u surely will strike lucky soon and this the best time of year to kick it off, suns out and dirty windows look bad in the low sunshine

get out there with NO delay, or doubts creep in . if was you id buy a double 10 rung ladder ,trade LYTE is the make i prefer. you will find out its hard graft in the erly days but hey hard work is good for you. i wouldnt wear a flash t shirt, start as u mean to go on, wear mismatched trackies or arran knitwear with what looks like a streak o sh/t on the back. folk like things like that,i promise you its true

Sort out Her majestys after a few months
