EGR valves...... who has theirs blanked off?

Had mine blanked off on my 2010 Citroen Dispatch 1.6 HDI. Had a new one on in October and it failed again last month!! Everything I've ever read about these wee blighters is only negative & when you understand what they do that's no surprise. My van has smoked under acceleration since I bought it, not unknown for Diesels I know but this was excessive IMO. Anyhow, had the EGR blanked off last week & the van is like a whole different beast! Better pull away, smoother power, slightly improved MPG & No smoke- I can't even force it to smoke!! It seems a common modification to make so I just wondered if anyone here had done it?

Never heard about it. Is it expensive to do or can you do it yourself?
Mega expensive- the kit cost me £8 off Ebay!!/emoticons/biggrin.png You can do it yourself but on my engine it's tucked away in a tricky place at the back of the block so I had mechanic do it.

How much did it cost labour wise?

He's not invoiced me yet but it's not a big job by any stretch of the imagination. Had it done as he had to replace the failed EGR valve anyway- it had actually blown a huge hole through it!! He himself recommended that I blank it off. You can buy a steel plate & gaskets made to fit most vehicles. You loosen the EGR body off (usually two bolts) & slide the pre-cut plate & gaskets into place then retighten. Job done.

Yup...total waste of time the EGR Valve.

Made my own blanking plate cut to shape from an old biscuit tin lid, bit of Blue Hylomar Gasket Sealant job done .

Told you I was tight with my money /emoticons/biggrin.png:D.

I have a blanking plate, couple quid off ebay but backed out of putting it on for the moment.. I have taken the cat off though and put a stainless steel side exit exhaust on last year. was little worried come mot time, but it went straight through /emoticons/smile.png VWT4

Egr valves are a def issue on the 1.6hdi engine the 2.0 hdi much more reliable a lot I know do blank these off

I have a seat Leon fr and they have the same issue I took my back to auto world and there response was everytime the eml light comes on blast it down the motorway!!!'apperntly they don't like be driven round town, after a massive arguement il never go back there

ill blank mine off it it plays up there more truble than there wrth for shore what milege is on your 1.6hdi? when u brout it an what is it now?

1 thing to consider is if your van is new and under warnty it could b invalad if u blank it iff but if its second hand ide do it strate away anouther thing is when driving try an keep the revs at 2000rpm not under as i think it helps the egr to stay clean

Having a bit of bother with what a friend of mine tells me is the egr after running test on the computer. Van is giving of a good bit of  Smoke, rough idle on cold start and bit of bad smellin fumes. Got a blanking plate of eBay there today and was just wondering do you need to map it out once blanked or will it be fine? 1.6 hdi dispatch 2011

Why not take it off and clean it up? Easybjob with a wire brush and some carb cleaner.
