insurance write off?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I bought back two of my own cars from my insurance company before as it costs them less to get rid of them that way I guess.

cheers smurf just looking for a cheap way to get a van /emoticons/biggrin.png i have found a website that have insurance write offs and they are going for next to nothing

This was years ago and I did not need to do anything as at both times was minor damage to the bodywork so both cars were road legal & driveable.

If you go best take someone with you that is in the repair trade to advise you or you may come a big cropper

dont ever buy a write off thats been hit at the front end. no matter how lightly. itll never drive straight

rear end ding or hit on the side scrapes are generally ok

Check the gaps between the doors and bonnet etc are even and not smaller in 1 place and bigger in the other as that is a sign the chassis can be a bit out of shape indicating some sort of jigging may be needed to make it actually safe to drive

I have seen minor knocks put chassis legs out before

I have seen chassis out of line due do side smacks

Depends how hard

If it all looks ok i.e the bonnet and doors are lined up 100% it should be ok

It is when the bonnet etc has a 10mil gap down 1 side and a 2 mil gap on the other i would be suspicious

I am a qualified panel beater and bodyfitter so know what to look for

ok good to know do you have any ideas how much say a back door would cost to replace or would it be a scrappy jobby pick up a door and fit my self?
