Frank once put a full bag of pepper corn into the coffee machine instead of coffee beans at a restaurant that I.....that Frank used to work in. It was apparent that something was up when more & more were being returned cause they were 'too spicy'

iv often thought that IF you kept delivering flyers regularly year round ,each and every year you would have a real monster of a round. im talkin about delivering month in month out say for ten years , the steady trickle effect would force your business to grow to a crazy size .

i spent a lot of organized effort doling out my flyers my first few yrs in the business but then i pulled the plug on delivering them regularly after year 5 cos i had so much work i was getting swamped even with 3 windies workin for me .

part of me wishes id had the guts to print more and press on delivering them say for another 5 yrs regardless ,[perhaps employing 1 fulltime person who delivered them, possibly 2 now wer talking ridiculous ]where would this have taken me?

then again who wants a monster round with all it entails. the bloke that runs this was small fry just like you and me till a couple of years ago , then suddenly hes flyering like a pro would, covering a giant area , buying rounds like theres no tomorrow. new vans the whole caboodle . but is it panning out? i personally dont see the work being done on the streets tho i DO see the vans driving , hes either got guts or is totally mad www.tlcwindowcleaning.co.uk

The area he covers is huge, hes even on my patch, the C*@%! /emoticons/biggrin.png

Hes got the right idea though, speculate to accumulate and all that.

Bit of a poxy website to be honest.

That's one big area to cover wonder how many blokes his got working for him.
my guess is that either he won the lottery to fund it OR hes got a backer . a fleet of brand new vans and flyering a giant area must av cost a fortune! i know you have to speculate but id think this is £million pound type money needed to set it up

There was a company down our way did the same thing but he sprung up over night had six vans flying around massive pr and advertising he sold up two years later and the company went under six months after that.

I pick up some of there customers every time I go out canvassing so not all bad.

Probably inheritance. Not to mention that much of it could be on finance.

Spot on mate, consistency is everything. The same can be true of facebook, these last 4 days ive been experimenting with leaving facebook open constantly not shutting down my laptop and bumping 3-4 times a day to over 50 groups, ive got 3 new custies and had a few more enquiries from ones that were just to far away to do. some people will get more or less from fb but the point is even if you only use fb getting 2-3 custies a week imagine how big you could grow. same with canvassing lets say you just dedicated yourself to 1-2 hours a week everyweek for years.

The secret of your success is found in your daily routine

But then again who wants to be constantly running their ass of 24/7 for years, i think the best way would be to systematise it and employ others to do the leafletting/marketing/canvassing etc if you wished to grow a big business.

The best marketing for me was my website by a long long way, it does the work for you, it's brilliant!

I don't go canvassing anymore, but when I first started I did, I built my round from scratch, and found that handing leaflets face to face was by far the better way, putting leaflets through a letter box tends to go straight in the bin with all the other junk mail bits ..

This is the way i see myself going, ive come to realise since starting out that i like the business side of thing, the marketting, the growth, looking for new opportunities etc. I dont personally see myself being a sole operating window cleaner for ever, i think i will want to look at different areas and opportunities to make money. Ive also realised that theres things im not comfortable with doing such as canvassing, rather than beat myself up too much ive come to realise that for a one man band being able to canvass/market yourself is great, it costs you very little, you can do it when you need work and back off when your full with work. its maximum gain from your own time put into the business, however theres a ceiling to this in that you can only do so much on your own.

I think window cleaning customers are generally a great investment with the vast majority giving a good return for the money you spend getting them. looking at it form a money point of view i think paying a canvasser/leafletter is a great investment, so simplifying it the more you spend the more you make, therefore keep spending, keep expanding and one day you will get to the point where you can pay someone to do your job looking after the business whilst you take a back seat.

Depends what you want from your life, me personally i feel i have found something i truly enjoy at last ( not so much window clenaing, but the freedom, opportunties, personal growth) never knowing what i wanted to do in life until i stumbled across being a business owner, and sure theres things im struggling with like canvassing that from some advice ive been give i cant build a business without, but ive realised thats not true, i have different skillsets one of them to be able to step away and analyse things and come back with a new plan.

just waffling off topic lol

Thanks to all recently on leaflets designs finally had mine done hope you all like, any comments or feedback appreciated for any changes possibly next time, im happy with them , cheers all
