Some custy are idiots and total wasters but when you find those golden ones there worth it and it wont take long before all your customers look forward to seeing you I can wait for that.

I binned a waster this morning..number 14 in a road

Got a new custy at number 51 same road this afternoon

How strange

Dave it's strange I have the same lost one waster but gained three on the same estate I love those odds...

Do you knock To get the replacements or get seen in action? If I knock each house that doesn't have a 'warning sign' I'd be lucky to get one average road done in two hours

I've not had to canvass to get replacements they just see me cleaning or a neighbour recommends me.

That one came from a recommendation

He contacted me through bookface

Have a total of 9 new jobs through facebook since sunday now

Only cost me 3 quid

Boosted post for a quid a day for 3 days

Definitely but it helps that it is now silly season and the local windies seem to have gone awol

2 of us on this forum from this town and we both seem to be getting a lot of work..not complaining though..can never have too much

Mate ill be honest I just can't get my head into Facebook think this weekend I'm going to try and get it sorted.

You do get some just after a cheapest price but you soon learn to weed those out

There is no way you can sort idiot customers out other than bin them, but I assume its a ongoing process until you pack your round of good ones.

The other morning, I get to first customer, not in, ring up no answer, wait 10 minutes then ring again and no answer, leave and go to next customer three streets away, "oh i forgot, no money on me can i leave till next time" FFS! do they think we just clena windows on the day and have no planning, the thing is its common decent thign to do to advise someone your not going to be in or can not do it, but so many people out there give a **** about others, even when your their window cleaner. Anyway get to third and yes have to ring them, "oh i have forgot even though I sent a reminder to all 2 days ago and got ok form them all. "can i re arrange next week" so my morning got ready got out at 9:00 start and ended up by 10:00 with nothing done but re books and wasted petrol and time, just for arrogant people whom have no consideration. They all gone well I am not contacting them now. Later on I got 2 new custies off facebook so one down.

It really makes me mad as they will be in for the tv man or sky man or tree man, but a window cleaner no lets just mess him about he is just a poxy window cleaner, thats how I feel they look on you. Or the other one you turn up and they say oh actually can i leave it there stil clean really. WHY could you not tell me this a few days ago and make me drive here etc....... ARGH! This is th only down side for me in this job, unreliability, other than that its a dream doing this job I love it! Pure freedom!

As someone said, I will weed them out all the time and not let messers in my round and just build and build until i have a round of good ones.

Ultimately, I guess they can live with dirty windows for a few months, they can't without an oven or TV. They can even live with dodgy gutters

Yeah, just a hazzard within our job, no one takes us serious lol - just a matter of finding a round full of good ones, in 2 months of doing this i have 171 customers now and weeded out 20, will just keep on top of it, just a little respect form people to tell you they can not make it so you can re plan would not go a miss /emoticons/smile.png Then it would be ok, just annoying. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

171! I remember your posts about starting out, well done!

I think it's just a bit of a luxury for a lot of people, rich or poor.

I currently have 1 regular. That's after about 900 flyers, 200 distributed into businesses by friends, 10 word of mouth gutter jobs, 3 x 2 month shop/community centre adverts over four months!

im followin you rooty lad, youv had it tuff with the broken ankle . the market its tuff out there but the more lines you put in the water eventually it pans out. one avenue that pays off is befriending a local loudmouth , the type who doesnt work but hangs around cafes . they love spreading the word . i know at least half a dozen of these bloomin annoyin[but useful] types , some i clean their windows cheaply .My workers cringe when the loudmouth comes over blowing alcohol fumes , nontheless they all play a part

Also anybody on a mobility scooter is worth a 5 minute chatup. they cant keep their mouths shut , its a dead cert fact, they spread the word too

Another good idea, almost like a 'town cryer' campaign. My milder version was to talk to a few local business people I know, mechanics, hairdressers, put the word out. I don't think I know anyone as you describe though, I don't go to pubs or hang out anywhere to do so... And perhaps I avoid rather than befriend TBH

Apart from the accident, the biggest error I think I made was to assume word of mouth would spread like wild fire, that passers by would jump on board too...

And to not keep one foot in healthcare work till I had customers aplenty

There are enough small business communitys on facebook to get your name out there

A bit of online networking

Hate texting, but you have to for some. Like, I texted one last night as she likes a text to remind her to leave the money out. Guess what, she forgot to leave the friggin money , oh and she texted back one time over the winter to leave them this month. Don't know why I bother sometimes.
I wouldn't be texting or phoning anyone lol i turn up when i turn up, i would just drop them if i had to go through all that carry on, if the gates locked i'll jump over it
