just seen 1 on ebay with an hour to go might get a bargain

ladder stabiliser they are calling it

Thanks @norm I managed to get it for £37 + £7 delivery. The seller has since emailed me to day they made a mistake, and that it has actually been used, not new as in the advert. Do you guys think I should cancel? Or ask for a reduced price?

Sounds a bit dodgy to me.

If your going to still buy it make sure it comes with all the parts and is in very good condition or you will have wasted your money.

Being a little less nimble on me feet these days, and having no one to hold the ladder, i've been looking into ladder stabilisers, is the ankalad the best one to have?

I bought a standoff from ebay in case i need it.

safest one as endorsed by pappa @Smurf

I would say the ankalad stabaliser is by far the best ladder safety device I've ever used. To be honest I would not use a leaning ladder without one now as like you I work on my own and not only that is a lot more reliable and stable than even someone footing the ladder.

The Ankalad Ladder Stabiliser

An Ankalad Stabiliser secures a ladder in much the same way as stabilisers secure a child's first bike.

Correctly positioned it's impossible for the ladder to slide down the wall or side over sideways due to over-reaching - which is the real killer and cause of 9 out of 10 accidents.

Ankalad weighs just 3.6kg (8lbs) and is built to a high quality using the finest materials, namely annodised aluminium, zinc plated steel, brass, stainless steel and nylon mouldings.

If you use ladders, or if you employ people to use your ladders, can you afford NOT to use Ankalad?

  • Fits any wooden or aluminium ladder of 1, 2 or 3 sections
  • Very high quality
  • Extremely strong, yet very light
  • Provides a safe reach of up to 26ft against a solid structure and up to 14ft free standing
  • Folds away flat when not in use
  • Adjustable telescopic legs with easy find locking buttons to cater for un-even ground
  • Totally eliminates ladder 'bounce'
  • Makes extending your ladder much easier
  • Will TOTALLY stop your ladder from sliding down a wall or toppling sideways

Think this is what i'll be needing, thanks Smurf.

No probs....

Keep an eye out for a microlite standoff too as is a brilliant bit of kit as can be used on pitched tiled & flat roofs for easy safe access. Ideal if you want to clear guttering, blocked downspouts etc as can rest on the roof tiles so make the job easier and safer to do.

Just added one to watch list on ebay, Thanks.

No probs as without a microlite standoff on the top of my ladder I could not have cleared the blocked downspouts on that house in the pic due to the very deep soffits. They all where fitted with metal gutter ballons so had to be checked and cleared by hand./emoticons/smile.png
