Smallest brush?

After looking at the Juliet balcony thread, was wondering what the smallest brush is? I've a few arrow slits that can't take a standard size brush. Anyone seen anything that's just big enough to take the angle adaptor?

It's not so much the angle but size of the brush. A two inch brush ain't gonna fit a 1 3/4" hole whatever the angle if you get me?

Sounds like you will need to cut a brush stock down then or find out from @Alex Gardiner if he has anything suitable or perhaps could make you one to fit.

Nope, typical arrow slit, although they're really just ventilation holes for storing stuff in granaries. If you have a typical 18" stone wall which has a window which is tapered from say 9 inch internally to less than two inches externally and glazed somewhere in the middle......you can't get a brush go fit through the gap to clean the glass sometimes.... Hang on

Something like this but glazed halfway through the wall. They're very en vogue round here with barn conversions. Get very dusty as not exposed to rain, and the pointing on the inside is always **** because nobody has brushed it back.

The idea of an arrow slit is so it very hard to get things in it from the outside.

So yes it works rather well so how the hell are you supposed to clean the fecking glass that some numpty has decided to install inside them.

Good luck with the small brush and all that

There have to be glazed as loads of barns are listed. You can't just open them up and whack a window in! Changing the story of the building and all that ********. What do you guys use?

First thing I thought was jet wash (hose with spray head if any doubt over seals) on lowest psi then guttervac any standing water out.

Not ideal if the window seals aren't up to scratch or the frames have sill vents...

Could maybe leave guttervac running in bottom by the sill to prevent water build up?

Frames should have been made to open inwards, then trad from inside, obviously not the case with these.

Edit --- I did a bit of window fitting years ago, thinking about it, its hard to see how they could have effectively mastic sealed the outside of the frame to the inner recess anyway.

So that probably does rule out jet wash...

Stiff paint brush gaffer taped to a long stick and water maybe as good as it gets...

You're right, they do open inwards, I squirted a load of water through the window once, I hope it was the bathroom. Yeh, gonna be paintbrush type thing attached to the pole. Or a giant electric toothbrush!!!

Folks, I am the director of a development of 138 apartments spread across 4 blocks in Wandsworth, South West London.

Most of the apartments have Juliet balconies and all the residents in those apartments are kicking off about the current window cleaners being unable to get between the inside face of the Juliet balconies and the walls or windows immediately behind the balcony glass.

Is there not a tool specifically designed to get behind to clean the inside face?

I would definitely introduce whoever can solve this to the managing agent to take on the contract asap.

Currently the cleaners abseil as there is no window cleaning platform from the roof.

Our neighbours (different managing agent) use cherry pickers and apply for the permits to block the pavement, but that might be an issue on one side of this development as there is a bus stop right outside the block.

Any advice much appreciated.

How much do you pay the current window cleaner and how often do they clean the windows Charles? I'm not after the work as it's way too far for me. PM me if you don't want to make it public. A bloke on here called @Neil may be of help to you.

£14,000 ex VAT per annum.

And as you can imagine, with a block with 138 residents, there are always complaints. You can never please everyone, but I feel the managing agent should be taking more of a lead, especially as we pay them £48K a year to manage.....

Anyway, officially i am no longer the Director as I resigned last year, having been made redundant from my real job.

I now work from home as a sole trader event manager, and as I am here all the time, I can keep an eye on things a bit more easily, so I keep my hand in for the benefit of the residents and the agent is happy with that too as I can flag things up for them, much more quickly than they do.

If you want my honest opinion the only tool is the guy that designed glass Juliet balconies in the first place. Also the numpties that uses them in buildings not thinking how they can be cleaned. Then customers expect us to clean them from the outside. That's even dangling from a rope from the top of the building FFS /emoticons/biggrin.png
