My First Full Day...

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Too true SPC. And thanks SimplyBusiness. Basically finished off the website yesterday as it happens and will be out canvassing later, although difficult to know when to start booking new customers in for.

Another kick in the gentlemans particulars is I genuinely got a quote from you guys a couple of days before, including cover for loss of earnings, but I had been helping a friend renovate a new home til late in the evenings and had to put off getting it until the weekend. Broke arm on friday. Another important lesson learnt! Don't delay getting insurance

Wouldn't have thought you could prove your earnings yet unless they pay a minimum or standard amount?

You could probably trad bungalows with one arm, or possibly do very easy access wfp to two story but try on your house first.

Sorry to hear that jimroot. Did you break your foot at work on a ladder too? I'm not a fan of ladders at all, I have a decent one in the van, but as it was literally 30secs I was lazy for the first and last time! I don't blame you dodging ladder jobs, I'm the same for the most part. I hope your new business is going well now!

Not sure how loss of earnings works to be honest jimroot, I guess if I got letters from customers saying they had me booked in might work?

Luckily I've canvassed bungalows so will try to do them one-handed in another week or so when I can drive again. Can't trad so save my life so will definately have to be wfp

I broke mine at home falling down the last stair holding my son and twisting the ankle over snapping the bone with the tendon. Common in ballet dancing I've been told, but mine was more like a sack of potatoes dropping.

I'm not comfortable with ladders yet, I tried to make myself do it but it's got me into a few near miss accident scenarios... Always seems they need a ladder placed where there's hedges, walls, Narrow steps, corners, narrow passages, tight turns, pebble dash... Maybe it's me.

Anyway, I figure I've invested in reach technology I'll use it and if I pass on some jobs that's that

Yeah just keep practicing trad when you can as back up... Say you forget a window after packing up like a side window... Just whip out the the trad and do it. Or insides you might get.

You can probably wedge the pole on your leg as support, but not sure how you'll handle the clips and extending

If I were an insurance company I'd probably ask for records before releasing funds, bank statements, tax returns etc.

Ballet dancing eh, there were no stairs really were there /emoticons/wink.png Just kidding. That sounds painful!! I hope your son was ok.

"Luckily" I didn't get the insurance beforehand so I don't have to worry about all that paperwork  I can see where trad would be useful, especially on the odd window down a side alley. Have a few insides booked in, currently just use karcher vac and pure / microwipes, does the job. I will get practicing on trad though, just can't fan properly.

That kit will probably be enough indoors I'd imagine, I don't do any insides yet.

Son was ok, just a bruise. Really throws you having a debilitating injury, have to reassess everything, well everything physical.

Also, if you miss one window, I imagine you could also micro wipe it as it's probably down a dark alley and maybe frosted, if you missed it in the first place.

I do one where he asked me to trad the door otherwise water pools inside.

Awful luck @MrBump - really sorry to hear that! And FYI @Jimroot it's usually worked out on proof of earnings and possibly evidence of what work you have lined up/regular work etc /emoticons/smile.png

Never know @MrBump, maybe one to look into once you're mended! A nightmare start for you but onwards and upwards

Trad is not rocket science mate

Just do straight sideways pulls starting at the top and going sideways until you get to the bottom (top to bottom pulls leaves lines sometimes)

Eventually you will pick up fanning and i think it is good to be able to trad for when wfp breaks down one day

As for canvassing start as near to your house as possible and do a road at a time working outwards to get a nice compact round and it will build up quick

@MrBump you will have plenty of time to practice your trad skills now with your good arm as is easy to do with either. Best for now you practise on windows that you can easily reach stood safely on the ground.

Thanks everyone! It's good motivation coming on here as not only is everyone is friendly and helpful, but living proof that it can all work out in the end if you out the effort in! /emoticons/biggrin.png

And cheers for the tips daveyboy1, I had been trying top to bottom and was getting streaks, not thought about going side to side. Am going to go practice now! Somehow I feel a bit like a fraud not being able to trad

Sorry to hear about your fall MrBump. I hope you heal soon. My concern is for your work.

I cant imagine being off for 6-8 weeks. I assume you have someone cleaning your round for you but no doubt this incident will result in quite a loss of income!

Thanks Steven, "fortunately" I don't have hundreds of customers to rearrange  The ones I have I've told and they have all been fine with it, I'm just having to put everything back a month and make do with however I've healed by then. I have other jobs tho which I can't do either so it certainly is hurting financially still. Sucks how something so small and stupid can bring life to a halt

Soooo I need to have an operation tomorrow and. Out of action for another few weeks. What a sh!tter!

Check those ladders for safety guys and gals! Even a simple climb up an 8' step ladder can put you out for a while if the wooden steps are rotten!

Sorry to hear that bud

I refuse to use step ladders

They are just not stable no matter what condition they are in

I used to be fine with stepladders, not that I ever felt safe on them, but my feet were never higher than 4' off the ground, first time higher than that and now I need some pins in my arm. I won't even be using a kickstool from now on!

Sorry to hear that bump :-(

My fall was only one step height, about 10", but it was the twisting ankle which snapped the bone, so I guess even an inch height can cause a break if you're unlucky enough to step with all your weight into something if it gives way. Unlikely and unlucky but bound to happen to someone somewhere

Like my mate coming off his moped..slid rather than being thrown and anyone would have been fine after but hit the kerb with his shoulder as he slid and subsequently lost his arm in hospital

The most unlikely things can and do happen
