My First Full Day...

Ouch. Breaking a bone by a twisting motion sounds painful! Mines more incovenient than anything. You said about an inch, well a friend of mine slipped on a rock on the beach barely an inch or two up, twisting his leg and broke both his shin bone and the other one down there. Sorry to hear about your friend daveyboy, thats terrible! To lose an arm after sliding off a moped is bloody unlucky! Poor guy.

I would say he is a lucky man

I have also seen him go under the side of a tipper truck on the edgware road and due to it being so high off the ground it completely cleared him

Even the huge diff at the back missed him

That would have taken his head clean off

Oh the joys of "borrowing" pizza hut bikes lol

I'm always extra careful walking on the coast as I imagine just this sort of thing happening. Those slimey green rocks...

A friend of mine broke his leg in several places and needed pins and wire after going down a short slide with straight legs

er ...I hope certain other members read this post and think...

one I have to watch out for is the three inch drop in the paving as your busy washing windows..bloody hurts..

yep I hate step ladders too..lucky I havent needed to use any other than my little three steppers../emoticons/biggrin.png

keep us posted mr bump when your next first day comes along...hope it goes better than this one:D

No slimey green rocks, just skimming a stone and fell over  As serious as it sounds, sliding down a kids slide and breaking your legs is a little humorous /emoticons/wink.png I think both of them need a calcium boost!

Thats exactly what it felt like cheapie, like missing a step or not expecting it to be there, that sudden jolt. Except that step was a step below gutter height.

Second doc said I'd be in a cast for 2 to 4 weeks... But I have customers waiting and calling me up so see if I'm ready yet so I have roped my brother in to help me in 2 weeks to do tops while I hopelessly trad and buff the bottoms with 1 arm lol.

Only 3 steppers huh, you wfp or stick to bungalows?

yeh im very stretchy off my big ladder on the way down..

had an awkward bay recently that I just couldnt reach...its amazing what an upside down bucket can do...

I will be ever so careful for a while after reading this post for sure...

one day there you are just nicely cleaning away and the next....

I wasn't even cleaning, I was just doing the customer a favour... Makes me think, no more favours - they're too bloody dangerous /emoticons/biggrin.png

yep

walked into one today....canyoujuster...put a plastic cage on top of the soil pipe..

with him stood at the bottom up went the ladder onto the nice shiny new plastic guttering and me thinking...dont break please dont break..

yeh favours...bloomin dangerous..

but she always gives me a two pound tip so mustnt grumble../emoticons/biggrin.png

the things custys think you can do as your there.....with your ladder...

You need to add a 'canyoujuster tax'/emoticons/wink.png Or say you know someone who did a favour and broke his arm so now because of health and safety your insurance won't allow it /emoticons/biggrin.png

Anyway bath and and bed for me as got my bloomin' operation early tomorrow morning!

yep mr bump I do use the insurance wont cover me an awful lot these days...

not heard back from that inside glass roof conny yet...feck that for a game../emoticons/biggrin.png

I gave the line 'the Heath and safety don't like using ladders if you've got any other means...' Shut her up nicely /emoticons/biggrin.png

All done. Bone ended getting split in half by the screw and now in a cast for 4 weeks. Think I'm in a worse state than when I went in lol. Lucky this forum helps to pass some of the time and to keep me motivated on getting back to work. This arm makes me want to pack it all in to be honest, its just one thing after another and being self employed and injured do not go well together!

Oh well i've got a days work booked in for ten days time, bottoms only with my bro on wfp on tops but still going to be fun with a shoulder to wrist cast on one arm :eek:/emoticons/biggrin.png

Sorry to hear that @MrBump at least now you can concentrate on getting better and just take it easy.

Thanks Smurf.. I'm not so great on taking it easy tho, I'm already bored and itching to get out and about /emoticons/wink.png

glad its over safely and you can now start recovery..real annoying as it is...these things happen.

hope you get back soon and keep us informed...but dont get ideas about giving up.../emoticons/biggrin.png

we await the real first day...

Thanks cheapncheerful. I don't know if its all window cleaners or just the ones on here, but ya'll seem so upbeat and have great job satisfaction and that is definately playing a part in keeping me motivated to get back and stuck in! /emoticons/biggrin.png

Thing is you have to look forward now and be positive as your fall if you had banged yer head could have been a total different outcome. Bones can mend but human brains don't so be thankful you did not end up a cabbage or worse.

Sorry that was not trying to put you off but please be careful in future @MrBump

Smurf, how did you know I look like a cabbage /emoticons/biggrin.png I will definately be careful in the future and I hope everyone here does too! I won't ever get back full movement or rotation of my elbow and I now have a pin in it... It only takes a split second... I didn't check the safety of the ladder first, as long as you stop and think for a minute first to make sure whatever your doing is safe then you give yourself a far better chance at staying in one piece

I'm no lady killer myself but got close many a time with the wife nagging me to death /emoticons/biggrin.png
