burnout-coping strategies

most every windie iv known has felt burnout. the common reason is taking on too much work, cos you crave more money but suddenly youv overdone it - workin yourself to a point.

so what dyou do when youre feeling burned out? how dyou get over the hill and survive it

lets say that giving up the trade is not an option

what i did was start to employ a parttimer. with hindsight im very glad i did or id not be a windie now im absolutely sure as my body would have gone TWang by now im no young buck .

but im thinking that there may be other ways of coping when it all feels too much,perhaps cutting down the round a tad ? this thread might give others ideas how to get over the hill [cutting down was my own families recommendation]

Us 'old-timers' need to start looking after ourselves, work less and enjoy life :thumbsup:.

You should've employed a 'FULL-timer' to do the bulk/shite jobs and you go 'Part-time' and cherry-pick the nice easy jobs to work.

Part-time hours suit me great.....like today......I've already finished for the day (started at 3am) /emoticons/smile.png.

As you know from my other thread, I'm looking to employ a lad soon. I'm just in the process of getting my round overloaded so I have plenty of work to give him. It makes perfect sense to employ someone as there is a limit to how much someone can earn off their own back. People say all sorts of figures like £150, £200 etc, but lets be real, its not like that every day for most tradders. And usually when you do earn the good days, its because you've worked your **** off and eaten into you reserves for the week. As soon as you employ, you get to cream off the top off each person without any extra work. I can't wait to do it.

I'm a long way off this sort of problem, but strikes me upping prices and condensing your round are solid ideas in the over worked stakes.

However, the worker is a better idea as if the condensed round went wrong, or an illness struck, it would be much worse. The worker is a good insurance policy. I suppose it's risk vs reward

I'd say money comes second to happiness and stress, so as and when you are able, money aside, drop the jobs you hate, stress you out or that you worry about going to and keep the ones that you enjoy and like even if the moneys not as good. Obviously all within reason and if you can afford to do so.

Walk past lots of windies cleaning high-street shops early morning. On the warm summer mornings it looks like the ideal job! Winter must be a bit more difficult though @Bingo? /emoticons/smile.png

Bloody cold some mornings I can tell ya!

I start earlier than any of the others in Cardiff...a few reckoned (and still do) I was mad starting so early......until they see me going home for the day when they're just starting their day of graft /emoticons/smile.png.

When i was cleaning (by no means maxed out on jobs) but when i had a busy time and started to get a bit fed up i would finish an hour early on some days go to the local pool have a swim and sauna. Always makes you feel much better and gets rid of those aches and pains. All set and ready for the next day then.

As mentioned employing someone can be helpful although dont know if i would want the headache of managing that.

Thats why I've resisted taking someone on I can see it to be swapping one stress for another. I've started taking weekends off so not getting burnt out like I used to and my productivity during the week seems to be better as a result.
