Most of these products say citrus fresh, lemon fresh, lavender and so on, so why not cut out the harsh chemical detergents and go pure! It's better for you and the environment.

Unfortunately I suffer with dermatitis on my hands which can get quite bad so have to be careful with chemicals and consequently have to wear gloves most of the time!

My hands are impervious to virtually anything but using flash lately has left my palms looking like crazy paving

At least vinegar doesn't do that

yes not wishing to join a bit of an argument...

cheapie hates going back to his car so ...if he runs out of anything...

tough titties ...so whatever is to hand will be used to keep him going...

yeh hanky is often used...it is a white microfibre...

water butts...no soap..too much soap..bent channels rubber gone....but still the show must go on...

as for soap...well fairy ..but anything he can lay his hands on off the custy for free.../emoticons/biggrin.png

Someone told me to empty a whole bottle of vinegar in the dishwasher and run it on hot empty and the vinegar will clear it all out. Said it made their washing machine last ten years or something. Not tried it yet though.

Can you use lemon juice instead of vinegar with your soap? I'd rather it smelt nice

You gotta squeeze a whole lotta lemons lol

Lemons have sugar in them so i suppose it would go sticky when drying on the glass

I put a bottle of vinegar through the washimg machine occasionally. .does a good job

What is your "additive"?Trade secret?/emoticons/wink.png

The thing with everyone nowadays disinfecting everything with this stuff that "kills all known germs etc" is that kids now have no immune system due to never being exposed to normal everyday bacteria and bugs that strengthen it

Especially so in these kids who play xbox all day and never go out

You know the anemic pasty looking ones

My sons mates are always ill and whining

When we were kids I'd be in my grandads garden all day digging (the whole garden was an allotment basically ) putting dirty hands in my mouth eating fruit and veg that weren't washed etc and never got ill and still rarely do

As grandad used to say "you got to eat a bucket of sh1t before it kills you"

Also said "you will never understand a woman as long as you have a hole in the end of your ****" but that's a different story for another day

By constantly cleaning we are actually lowering our kids defences to all the bugs and germs out there
I make you dead right there! This wrapping of kids in cotton wool has gone silly. The things I see with parents and their kids in local parks! One lady dragged her little darling away from my boys because they were kicking through leaves! I mean seriously!

Even my brother in law once told his daughter off because she had a little beetle crawling on her hand.....Nuts!

Well we don't want sticky glass do we, I won't bother with lemons then and try out some vinegar.

Trad two days this week as I can do it one-armed - shockingly I'm not sure if I prefer it to wfp now  Won't ever replace it though as I ain't tradding on no ladders! /emoticons/biggrin.png

No, I don't bother with all this disinfectant stuff, you're not going to catch anything off a window are you?

My additive. Up to last week I have used HG System, it's a Scandinavian company and they make cleaners for everything, and I've been using that for about 10 years. It has no soap so you have to put washing up liquid in to get slip. Well it's getting difficult to get as not everybody stocks it, so I was looking on the Window cleaning centre at additives and they have one by Ettore. Very oddly, it looks exactly like the HG, and even the same packaging and instructions. So I have bought that (it was a bit cheaper than HG too). I have a formula that I use: put in the maximum additive - the instructions say 10 to 15 cc per 5 ltrs, so I put in 15. Then add washing up liquid, but only enough to get the slip, I avoid soap suds as that causes the runs which causes the need to detail. If I then add more neat washing up liquid to the scrubber it doesn't soap up too much (sort of supercharges it). The idea is that the HG or Ettore will get the bird muck and grease etc off the glass and the washing up liquid is only for slip. There, I've given my trade secret away!

I find it tends to reduce the amount of big white suds but don't affect the performance of the soap

This is why I hate ladders! :DView attachment 4948

To be fair I've never liked them anyway, don't trust them, they bounce, clunky and awkward to move around, I'm like one of the chuckle brothers moving them around lol, its just safer and easier to use a pole if I can ;)

Ouch, at least mine was only my elbow! What happened to your head? I just stupidly got lazy and used a customers old wooden A-frame ladder which melted when I got to the top o_O

Wow! My old wooden Point eventually melted on me, and I landed inches away from a large ornament rock! Yours was worse that mine, I reckon, although I would never-ever want what happened to me to ever happen again. Mine was typical beginners error. Mine was a first floor window of a house front door, but it was above a porch. I pulled the ladder right out at a 35degree angle, and went up. It was January too, and icy ground. Got to the top and it just went. Landed on the back of my head, and my body weight came crushing down on me. Luckily I was very light at about 9 stone at that time, still seriously hurt me. My ribs folded in like folding gates, spine bent up. Was a little concussed and couldn't see much, but managed to get to my van shouting my head off in severe pain like I was going to die. After about half hour drove to Hosp. Nothing was broken. My back has given me gyp for 18 years after that, but just last year has been okay, but I've been keeping physically active in that time. Soz to blabber.
