So i have been doing a bit of research recently and have come across some different business names outside of the usual area based business names.

So got me thinking how did you come up with your business name (if it is a little different) do you think its important to have a specific area as your business name or do you like i feel that that might be a bit limiting?

Well i am a mr and i use a squeegee..hence mr squeegee

It does what it says on the tin

Gott change it to mr long pole with brush on end now

I did a lot of thinking and brain storming, competition is high round my way so had to stand out, had to be memorable, had to be different and look good...

Depends where you are and how professional you want to be I suppose...

I used to just be my my initials beifre I went down the marketing road..

I like your name. After seeing your logo. I wondered how you came up with that @Jake I was looking the other day for ideas for myself when I eventually got back into it. It's so hard to get a name that stands out and no others are using. Every one I thought of others are using.

I just thought one night about the meaning of certain words, and zeal popped into my mind, means passion, and is very different, and easy to remember...

Best thing to do is look through the dictionary at words... Sounds daft but flick through and just see what catches your eye!

Ha I like it. It's funny you look at words and think that they would be odd for window cleaning. Yet seeing your name with the logo it does not seem odd. Will have to get my thinking cap on.

Lol yeah it's kind of weird isn't it, it's like anything I suppose, once it's been 'branded' it jus suddenly fits!

It's like 'apple' when you think about it, an apple doesn't really have anything to do with computers, but it's just seems right now!

It could have been called 'crab' and we wouldn't know any different, it would have just felt right lol!

I went with my second name, after much pondering it just seems non gimicky and clean.

Thompson Professional Cleaning Services

(added the professional as theres another thompson cleaning fairly local although it should be amateur to be honest)

Well all the thinking of a 'cool' business name got me insane so thought well straight and simple name that fits the way my company is; personal. So my business is called: Jacobs Vinduespolering = Jacobs Windowcleaning in english. Designed my own very simple "logo" in word lol but simple to remeber thats what count.

yeh thats why i went with cleaning and not window cleaning allows future expansion to keep the same logo/name/ website etc.

always look to do things with the long term goal in mind

least you didnt go with Veal, such an awful trade . or Vale , i knew a man called Dickie Vale, his wife had a hairy chest

I started with, PROPERJOB WINDOW CLEANING, because properjob is a westcountry (Devon/Cornwall) phrase often used to exclaim satisfaction or indeed just to say thats a good job done.

People loved it and would say they rang up just because of the name. It worked really well for a couple of years but then a new window cleaner appeared in a town 5 miles away and called himself, Properjob Window Cleaners.

This fella was a rogue. He was taking money for the whole year, upfront and not doing the work. He provided a dodgy mobile phone number (it didn't work).

So I was getting the grief. I had the website, email address etc etc. They found me instead of him.

Overnight I had no choice but to change to my name.

My website is still www.properjobcleans.co.uk and emails are properjobservices @live.co.uk. But I have plastered my name over everything. Search engines throw up my name even though the website is still linked to my old business name.

The other guy disappeared as they do, but I now feel safer with my name as no one else will use it.

It's good to have a name that stands

I get so many recommendations and people still phone me and with a chuckle say "is that mr squeegee? Heehee"

It instantly gets people having a chuckle and makes for a relaxed phone conversation

I am gonna be the only wfp windie called mr squeegee lol

New Leaf Window Cleaning

.......cause its sooooooo different to what I was doing 2 years ago. Daily reminder of what I don't want to return to:

....... suited & booted commuting to London every morning using fast sounding words like 'empowering, PIP, plethora, take this offline blah blah blah'

* and I may or may not have copied a local removals company logo & name - whoops /emoticons/smile.png
