turning away work

what excuse do you give when you know the job is not for you ?

i was asked to price up a job today that was so big id have had to put all other work aside for about a week ,with it ongoing every 2 months for about a year or so then contract over

my lads were all for it [liking a challenge ] but the plain truth is theres not enough time in the schedule or energy in reserve to take it on-i cant shunt loyal paying customers off just to make a quick buck

in the end i wrote on the quotation form "im not interested in this job"

this to me sounded a bit sh/t

Sorry, this assignment is currently beyond the scope of our operations. We appreciate you for considering our company in this matter and should our position change in the future we will be sure to inform you.

Kind regards, Boars.

Sometimes easiest just to say it how it is.

E.g what Green wrote but include the bit about not wanting to let down loyal customers.

* I feel really bad today as I shunted a customer that had been booked in for awhile because a bigger clean came up and my eyes saw the £££ - good for mee wallet but not for the soul /emoticons/smile.png

I would have just put in a stupidly high quote. If they had accepted it, then you would have found a way to make it work- take on another member of staff maybe. Training him up on a commercial job with loads of glass would have been a great opportunity without risking losing loyal custies to substandard work while he gets his head around things. Otherwise I would have gone with something like Greens wording.

I am running out of room for the next 2 weeks

5 new customers and 2 1 off conny jobs since yesterday morning

2 new custys left to do now on monday. .both in and out jobs totalling 100 quid and wanting outsides monthly..and that is without double first clean as they are all part of the group of friends i am already working for..started with 1 woman now it is 12 customers..fell on my feet with that one..she runs the local community facebook page for her area and knows everyone

Gonna need to re shuffle my round again soon

Plus got to fit a weeks work in before and after my 6 days in alicante so i am not behind

Going on a Wednesday so gonna do some early and some late

... But they'd know if they were lucky enough to be a BC customer they wouldn't be dumped for a better job?

Funny this should come up today.... If I take on any more I'm going to run out of the few leisure days I get each month and this evening I get a call from a sweet sounding old lady that says her cleaner has let her (and her neighbour) down....I'm going to pop round in the morning but I'm getting to the stage where I'm starting to feel a bit awkward about quoting really strong prices but that was the decision I made a few weeks back....If my new rates get accepted than I will look at the worst paying jobs I have and explain that I need to raise prices to the new rates or they will have to find a new cleaner.... Don't know how I'm going to cope if everyone accepts the new prices.

There's nothing wrong with your plan Danfire, when I started building this round I was charging about £8 for a 3 bed semi as need custom. Now that I am not in any real need of custom 3 bed semis are a minimum of £10 - £12 if thery are tricky to get around and up to £18 in the have an average conservatory.

I have one that is £35 as he has a Bentley and a Maserati on the drive and a gym bodied wife 20 years younger than him so I figured he can afford it! /emoticons/tongue.png
