View attachment 5161 new job on friday, owner saw me in town & asked for a price, he said he just moved up from sussex & knew about wfp so he knew it wasnt gonna be £5 or £50. there's 10 windows you cant see. what would you price it at, its near a lot of other work.

There's not that many windows, so if it's monthly then I'd say £50 give or take a little bit

well i dont know exactly where he lived but he said it was quite a well off village in sussex & he said he was paying £20!!!!! i'd told him £30 but we settled on £25 but i'm only doing the balcony when they are in so dont need to get ladders off. i really think thats a lowish price for this area & i was expecting him to of been paying £40 ish down south. of course he might be lying lol

that is WC dream all new windows only single panes, that would be great job to get

i would be happy with £40

top frames easy easy to clean plus the skylights

quite surprised how low the guys down south have priced it thought they would be lot higher.

two guys 20mins

Probably talking through his jackson mate, however this thread has me intrigued as next year we will sell the Nottingham business and move back to London, Will probably be round building around Richmond / Kingston Upon Thames areas so keen to see how pricing evolves.

When I first started in Nottingham typical terraces and small semis, a mate that's lived and windied here for years said, 'It's all £4 £4.50 per house round here, all sewn up, you'll struggle to build a round around here!'

Totally demoralized I checked the job center web site, after a look on there it was window cleaning or suicide, only two practical choices /emoticons/wink.png

I walked along the first terraced row knocking doors at £8 per pop and was getting my hand bitten off.

'Oohh no window cleaners around here, oooh can't get a window cleaner for love nor money in these parts! '

And the rest is history.

So August next year the company will go on the block as a going concern, name, equipment, rounds, training, everything, then six weeks holiday then down to the smoke where they streets are paved with gold!! (well at least some gold plates grills) ((Reference to youth of today)) /emoticons/tongue.png

he seems genuine enough & suprised at £30 but i'm happy at £25 me n my son did the first clean in 30 mins so i reckon a lot quicker in future. i was just really suprised at how much he was expecting to pay as i have other ex southies who are always dead happy with my prices & this is the poshest area i do, i've even got ex council houses for £9 & £12

Here in Notts I get ex council 3 bed semis for £12 no issue. I think we are just starting to see the era of valuing the self employed, we had the bronze age, the iron age, the industrial revolution, now it is the turn of the self employed.

I really dont think there is a customer now that does not expect a minimum of £10 as after all that's not even a packet of fags now is it?

You see here's what I truly wonder about.

I charge a decent whack (but still a fair price) per job to make my average hourly rate more then comfortable.

Now that hourly rate is actually just a little be more than my mate charges for his plumbing services in London (he is always balls to the wall).

So really I when I move back to London I could still keep my pricing structure (perhaps a small increase) and in theory from what I read on here they should be chasing me in the street to do their windows!

I'm not a greedy man, and I don't see why I should be charging £30 for a job I would happily do for £12 up here, perhaps a slight bump to £15 to cover cost of living rise I am going to have to face but otherwise pretty much stick to the plan that has always served me well.

Just my thoughts

As long as it is not seriously undercutting the local guys it's not a bad idea..if that is what you expect to earn for a days work then it shouldn't matter where you are

Yes but say davey charges £30, I am more than happy at £15 that is quite a drastic (even if not deliberate) undercut.

So am I supposed to or even expected to raise my asking to closer to the £30 just cause that's what the local lad has charged till now? Even if I truly believe that £30 is too much (bordering on robbery)

I always believed on a fair price for a fair job, no more, no less. (Of course the to$$er tax will always be liberally applied to said to$$ers)

Now to add some context I am saying £15 for a regular semi 2/3 bed no conservatory etc.

£30 tops for me on a 4 weekly, perhaps 50% more for the 1st clean to get them perfect. I'm happy with £30 a hour and maintaining that each month would be under a hour I'd say easily. Perhaps sell him a yearly gutter clear and clean for a bit extra from it.

I work on the border of Hampshire and West Sussex...same as most areas there are fools cleaning windows at rates that would struggle to pay minimum wage...generally, when I'm taking over from these cleaners that disappear the frames are never touched...did a first clean today (even though I vowed to never work weekends) where the previous cleaner was doing a big four bedroom detached with large conservatory for £10, I just took it to £30 and the lady asked if I could do the two extra windows above the conservatory from inside...customers were well pleased and decided to up my rate to £35...kerching

If it was a cheaper looking place with the same amount of windows I might go as low as £30 if I really wanted it....if I gauge the people to be wealthy (Porsche on the drive, 750k house, expensive looking teeth etc) I might be inclined to stick another tenner on.
