Pickingpaul

im moving house soon hopefully, and ive been throwing stuff away i dont want/need.

I had a load of metal in the shed, lots of knackered old locks and keys and an old key cutting machine that weighs a ton but brocken so i thought i will take it down the scrap metal yard myself and earn a few quid before i move house.

I saw an old lawn mower on my way to work last week, one that u push, weighs quite a bit i thought, i grabbed it as i needed a mower for new house, turns out its broken, no probs i can take it to the scrap yard, then i saw an old bbq, grab that, a metal bed, grab that too, this that and the other lying around, ive got a car full now so i load up the car which took ages and went to scrap yard, and they gave me a cheque for £9

I used to work there fairly regular as a locksmith, mostly warrants :rolleyes: i didnt like doing that

thanks for that paul.I have often wondered if it was worth the effort to visit our local very muddy dirty scrapyard...

instead I snuck stuff out for our local collectors as tbh didnt think it was worth the effort

and besides....at the scrapyard

the buggers would probably crush my car too.

Yeah, totally ****, £50 a ton btw. Unless u got copper or brass not worth bothering

Whats that like as a trade mate? I always fancied it.
I love it but not enough work around for my liking and it stressed me out working my own jobs as i didnt know where i would go at what time and what lock it was going to be.

I applied for a full time job and got it, the only job ive ever applied for i might add, other than that its been window cleaning.

I had to do a week days and a week nights, totally hated it after a while but loved the actual work, breaking into someones house in seconds in the middle of the night cause they lost their keys, or clearing up after a break in, usually a smashed window to board up and locks to change

I quite like driving about which is all the job is after a while, i can pick most locks in less than a minute, or destroy them in less than 5 mins. Had to quit it as i wasnt getting paid enough compared to window cleaning and had no time for a life as the hours were crazy. They had us doing 24 hour shifts one sat and one sun a month. Thats after 9-5 mon to fri, which eant leaving about 8 and sometimes geting home by 7. Or night shifts start 6pm until 6am, sometimes not a single job but other times u would be out all night all over the place.

Imprefer window cleaning as i know what im going to do every day and can pick and chose customers and areas, stop and start at will and make more money. But window cleanings harder /emoticons/biggrin.png

I might take locksmithing back up one day, i used to charge £60 to gain entry when ppl had lost their keys, usually i had the door, open in less than a minute, some doors i can open in a few seconds :hey:

i once had a G/F from up your way paul, willenhall. she told me the area is very famous for lockmaking. just a bit of useless info i learned

Yeah thats right, im a lock geek and have hundreds of mortice locks of all types, ive got a few "willenhall" locks

dont ask me how but...when our kitchen door with its five point locking locked permanently ...er..somehow...I er got in...and ..its new lock fitted its still in use okay today..

maybe worth a look this lockpicking business..mind you ...I think I used my two foot chisel on the principle of well the door was no good anyway locked so I couldn't make it worse....and I didn't...lucky for me..:Dinteresting post paul

I have got a lot of copper knocking about ..our travelling friends are not getting that.!

Cnc, sometimes those multi point mechanisms need to be realigned as plastic doors fall gradually over time and get to the point where they either wont lock or wont open.

Allen keys in the hinges to lift the door slightly is all it usually needs, a squirt of wd40 wont go a miss either.

yes paul we had a ten year guarantee when we moved in....so I put a claim in for two doors which jammed...the company had gone bust ...or had it....it changed from cold seal to warm seal....

when we moved in I thought the locks where hard to use....and thats why they broke...if they are set up wrong...you soon wear em out...

yes er....my back doors I put in are er...a bit er...squiffy and the allen keys were used to just make em shut okay dont suppose any one else would know but...I know its another cnc **** up...

and as for the hall window...upside down....or one of the two windows in my garage conversion...upside down....

cnc rushes to finish work when hes not getting paid and so...cocks it up...

but still ...nobody will notice when I sell up...hopefully..

You only made £9 but you saved not having to pay someone to move it too, so win win

Yeah, but to get scrap metal moved all you do is put it at the end of the drive, it magically vanishes during the day /emoticons/biggrin.png

Nice utube vids of lockpicking Paul

I used to watch my mate do it

He was a self employed locksmith in london and busy all the time and earnt an absolute fortune

Then got done 3 times the drink drive limit and lost his licence

Don't know what he's doing now as he is up north on the run for jumping bail in london for his 3rd drunken car theft he got caught for 6 years ago..could be banged up for all i know

Just shows how things can change

Idiot went into petrol station for king size rizzla while ****** in a knicked car

Police were in the shop and walked out behind him as he stank of drink and busted him on the spot..idiot

Bloody hell, u can earn a lot locksmithing, but u need all the right set up van tools lock stock website etc, i can start it up in the future if i get sick of windows. But it stressed me out before never knowing when the phone will ring, and ppl cant wait if they are locked out, its now or never kind of work.

So ur mate probably got into the habbit of having a drink then getting a call and still going to do it, i used to have to go changing locks in the middle of the countryside in the middle of the night, it was kindds fun to begin with but soon wore thin.
