like really if u offer 10 an hour plus holiday plus bonus .. say every new customer he gets the first clean and have him on a 35 -40 hour contract he wudnt be thinkin of settin up on his jack

I reckon we are making our own demise by sorting out the business plan for them. Not long now and Richard Branson will be a regular on here asking which RO unit to use on high output trucks./emoticons/biggrin.png

If it was something not easily replicated then sure, a supernarket, a delivery / postman etc not gonna happen, a windie where you can nick customers and easily set up on your own o double your wages and halve your hours, won't last. There are already plenty of windie businesses hiring guys, why would someone rather work for a bigger business for min wage and stitch up their mates and if not already a windie and want to be there are already all the routes in to be able to be one. I don't personally think the margins are there, unless you charge decent money. On silly tiny money any miniscule profits would be soaked up by mass advertising, management costs, hq costs, accountants and customer service etc etc. Still it could happen, but for all the other reasons I said above, I think us self employed windies would be safe for the most part, might just have to up our game a little or smarten up. And it could be good over all as it will bring more custies into the game and maybe introduce the younger generation in to the market etc

@TolishAPurd Your theory is already happening.

A large commercial company is offering the first THREE cleans free. So essentially they are not having to put any money up front. Just a lad in a van and pay his wages. They are not paying a canvasser, so they haven't got to fork out 10,000£ of pounds upfront. Its risky, but it could work out. I still say you will get used no end tho!

LMAO - Of no relevance how much you pay, how many bonuses etc etc, they will still take the pi$$ they are employees and they are predisposed to do so.

My contract for crew was exactly what you have said there Peter and still they want more for doing less.

People seemed worried by the influx of new window cleaners and drowning out the workplace etc etc

Yes why there is many new firms setting up everywhere you have to take into account how many there are also retiring, giving it up,selling rounds, moving on to new businesses and then the winter killing off the newbies!

Then there's always the new housing estates being built everywhere, offices retail parks etc etc

I think as long as your good at your job and reliable there's work for everyone

Let's not forget trust windies get to see everything in people house, monitor when they are in out no when there on hol so people usually reluctant to get rid off a loyal windie just to save a couple quid!

Just do good job and everyone's round should get bigger by the month

Well cant speak for you guys, but over here there already one nationwide company, his been 30 years got lots of employees (learnt the trade there) and is charging cheap prices, he is operating in whole of Denmark, south Sweden and now, yes, california usa.

Although his in every city in the whole country got 15000 regulars custys, but still thers plenty work for all othet windies. Many people like personal service which he cant offer, so wouldnt worry to much Tolish your nightmare has been going on here for 30 years and im doing just fine /emoticons/biggrin.png

Exactly mate, I'm a visionary./emoticons/biggrin.png
In principle it could happen as u describe, big corporations do want to take over everything and monopolise things but i cant see it absolutely killing off good window cleaners, the people working minimum wage for the corporation wont take the care we do

Whats the biggest window cleaning company in the uk?

America would probably boast the biggest right? And i doubt they even have one that covers an entire average state? And even if there is one that does there is still loads of indipendant ones

Like I have said before Jacob there are 18'000 houses in my postcode of NG4 alone so plenty, what your man has may be a shed load but just a drop in the proverbial bucket mate.

After joining this forum and reading what average or proper prices are im convinced im safe as i dont charge as much as a lot of people, but i know i dont charge the lowest in my areas, ive got my good spots great spots and average spots, im looking forward to everywhere being great, great comes by houses in rows at great prices

I suspect a national company would charge more than i charge a lot of the time

doubt they could beat my fiver semis...
