IPAF COURSE

I no round my way hiring a cherry picker or boom or any type of lift is definite no go if you don't hold ipaf certFriend of mine drives mobile cranes but also has his ipaf so he helps me with this type of work
Seems to be a bit of a grey area, when we first looked into hiring them, we went to a hire company and they wouldn't allow us unless we had ipaf, so we went down the road to another hire company and they said no need, you don't need ipaf... So we've used them ever since and it's been great, they also add insurance for about £10 for the duration of hire,

It's a bit weird really, you'd think it would be law, but it's not...

Jake will the insurance be valid without iPaf tho
A very good point, have you read the insurance policy wording? What actual cover is it giving you? .... is it just cover for the machine itself ?

You will also need to read your own liability policy wording, in case of any damages you may cause when operating the machine .... for example by not having the IPAF accreditation, some claims teams may read that as a reckless act and policies often have exclusions such as:

Deliberate or reckless acts - what is excluded

any act, breach, omission or infringement you deliberately, spitefully, dishonestly or

recklessly commit, condone or ignore which could reasonably be expected to cause

injury or damage to another party even if such injury or damage is of a different degree or

type than could reasonably have been anticipated.

I would be happy to look over the wordings for you, if you want, no obligation.

Martin

Wreckless lol !

Im not sure, I'll find out, I don't know why it's not compulsory if those issues are true, strange really!

I guess it's just cover of the machine, I'll ask them next time if they do cover for the building as eell

Had my ipaf for 12 years now ,you've got to be a complete muppet to fail ,always been a fun day never serious

Hi Martin, I hold a policy Gleaming, any more info on the wording on IPAF, cherry pickers, etc, would be great.

@Martin Holden when I pass my course shall I update my policy with you that I will have the IPAF cert?
Hi there Neil, yes just drop us a quick email and we will note our records. This will be important if you are involved in a claim and the insurers ask the question - box already ticked.

If you have an accident in you picker and your not trained you have no chance with insurance I bet that £10 you pay won't cover you.

No it prob wouldn't Neil, not really sure as it's not a legal requirement, We've used them for 4 years and never been asked, illl look into it,

The course isn't necessary for us for any other reason than insurance, as we've been using them so long we don't need the training as such, it would only be for the insurance purposes...
