Hi all, Many Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to respond to my previous threads, its really appreciated.

What I was wondering is, window cleaning is a profession in the UK, it is not unusual to have a regular window cleaner here in Great Britain. But where else is window cleaning the norm?

This tread could be handy for those of you that are considering emigrating 1 day. So if you've been a window cleaner in another country or know other countries that have a window cleaning tradition like us, please share.

Many Thanks again, Matt

I would say all countries other than perhaps 3rd world ones have window cleaners, unless of course they build homes without windows :eek:o:

Not where I come from. In Poland it is VERY common to have windows that open outwards or inwards fully so you can easily do it yourself which majority of people do. Commercial window cleaning is there obviously

Thank you for your reply, yes this is what I found out this week about Switzerland, so Poland is the same. Interesting. The US doesn't have much of a window cleaning scene either, it's a British thing mainly I think.

I clean for a German family & she once told me they don't have window cleaners. They do it there selves. In Germany that is.

the us and canada both have large window cleaning industries. the main difference i see is the frequency of cleaning. i in uk it seems normal to have residential cleans frequently but here the people that do use window cleaners are usually once or maybe twice per year. some areas of the us have dry dusty climates and are more likely to get cleaings more often.

also in winnipeg the residential season is almost done, we will soon be anywhere from zero to -40c with 6inches to 3 feet of snow and ice. we start up again april/may.

storefronts are more likely to be frequent. some companies that do storefront and commercial work through the winter.

i saw flyers for residential window cleaning when i was over in Lithuania and i cleaned a couple of houses over there .

Plenty in the UK that can be cleaned by the home owner but many still choose to have a window cleaner. I'd say professional window cleaners appear in most countries to be fair.

I've been doing this for 20 years but I have a window cleaner! Cant be bothered to do my own after doing it all day

I can't ever remember having seen a domestic window cleaner in France - perhaps because the windows open inwards. I have seen window cleaning rounds for sale on eBay in southern Spain however - maybe this is because of the large number of ex-pats out there ...

I think about this when I'm in Europe all the time. I have been in Germany and France in the last month. I saw one commercial cleaner in Hamburg and I saw a scooter with an A-frame ladder on the back in Paris.

Whilst on a **** up in valencia, I did spot a window cleaner in the city centre. I sat there with a chilled beer and watched him. It was quite theraputic. He was very very slow.

here in new zealand window cleaning is a great job plenty of work in residential and commercial enough well off people who are happy to have some one clean their windows mow lawns etc.can do it all year round too in the north island where i live. just like any where though its competitive.and its got similar problems to overcome as u.k to succeed. the latest trend i have seen is a franchise called "crest cleaning" moving into the w.f.p.marketing them selves very well in the main city Auckland. lots of people like me doing it on there own so to speak and making enough to feed the dog
