@boarcity why not start again with the canvassing/leafletting/building an empire?

@Green Pro Clean Ltd i will hire your girls, send them up here to give them a proper test lol

On a serious note your business model looks very good, have you ever thought about adding more services green such as carpets say? or do you think that overcomplicates things needing the extra gear and training for staff etc

truth is,im not ambitious enough. havnt had enough confidence in my own judgement to go Really big. so far iv done it all "cash" but you go bigger than i am now youve really got to be in with the banks cos youre talking real money
otherwise i would have carried on canvassing and had 3 vans 6 employees by now. but im not fretting, im making a very good living AND im happy with my lot .

@adamangler dont know if you have seen it http://www.greenproclean.co.uk but you may see we offer a few more services than you may have imagined.

My wife runs all the cleaning side and already has two other girls in part time and I have also taken on a young lad for odd jobbing such as gutters etc as he does not drive so jobs where I can drop him off with tools and collect him a couple of hours later, so far he has not disappointed, might be cause he is on £3 per hour more than minimum wage for a 17 year old.

Biggest thing I am learning from all this is encouragement, encouragement, encouragement and pay better than anyone else on 'my turf' Current staff all seem well keen and are working socks off, we will see how long it lasts.

P.S. Jade has already canvassed for another lad on here (with me) in North Yorks. However, it does not matter how many cleans you offer @adamangler you have destroyed many a pro canvasser so Wakefield is on the black list along with Chernobyl, Baghdad and Birmingham (We dont speak the language in Birmingham)

How you gonna find time for all these first cleans?
Not difficult really, you can fit in several first cleans in a day you just got to be in the frame of mind as it is a harder days work than maintenance.
I want all the first cleans for myself anyhow just so I can see if there are any issues, meet the punters and see if they fit our 'customer profile'. If all that cuts the mustard then they can go on the regular rota.

employee liability insurance is 100quid per employee per year give or take a few quid

thats pricey , i pay just over 600 public and employee insurance combined [3employees] .

how many employees is that for tho?

that reminds me,i must remember to start hunting around for quotes erly when renewal time comes around. apparently its common practice for insurance companys to renew the policy a month erly automatically now [if your bank accounts got it in] this really annoyed me at my last renewal

there will be. its usually around 100 quid per employee for employee liability insurance

public liability doesnt go up by much no matter how many employees . i usually shop around like most folk do at renewal time but have stayed with Simply Business last few years

Very much so dealing with 'him' has been a real pleasure and learning curve.

We are almost decided and very much leaning toward adding professional canvassing to our services however we have learned the following:

It would only be throughout the months of British Summer Time. The winter days are too short, by the time we get started at 10:30 - 11 am we do not have long enough to hit large numbers during prime times (tea time) as it is already dark by then.

Also if the window cleaner is not willing to work to a 'model' that we offer then we can't help them. For example, we collect a mobile number from every client so the window cleaner can text the night before and remind the client -

Also some windys still insist on 'cash only' this does not work for us, they must be willing to accept at least one form of electronic payment as some clients will never be home and aren't happy with leaving cash laying around some where.

Lastly they must have a realistic expectation of pricing, we do not price a single job below £10 and aim for a minimum of £1 per minute for time spent 'on windows' which generally equates to £30-£40 per hour.

Whilst I only have 8 years in this industry I think I am pretty well placed to price jobs properly and as any one working for me is trained by me then they are too. Also the benefit of being a window cleaner myself is that I can tell a potential customer what can and cant be done safely and realistically.

Under those terms we will be doing some canvassing come the summer for 2 or 3 other window cleaners when my new lads are busy enough capacity and the canvassers are still needing to work.

Green just to plck your brains. Im assuming the young lady you have canvassing was not a full on wlndow cleaner when you employed her, what formular do you use for pricing.
I was wondering the same thing.

Hi Green and gang : quick question.. whar would.be the rate for.hiring.your canvassers like Jade out in the future ? Same as we going at now ?

I have previously written a thread on pricing and will see if I can find the link tomorrow.

No she was not an experienced window cleaner but she is a sponge and soaks up everything I explain and she also has my number on speed dial so if stuck can ask me right away. If need be I can usually swing by within 10 mins.
