Worth getting a van (p/t window cleaner)while doing another job?

I would stop looking at ways to avoid tax.

If you are setting up a proffesional business then the best thing to do is get yourself an accountant.

They will advise you on what you legally can and can't do.

@Danfire I don't know why but I thought you were a fireman not a poncy bleedin hairdresser...Oh well each to their own. /emoticons/tongue.png
I would have probably thought the same until I drove one, a go cart for the road and I love it...just got to get in touch with your feminine side.

@Danfire Youre probably best speaking to an accountant if you dont already as i dont really know much about what you speak
I do my own tax returns and use simplified expenses Simplified expenses if you're self-employed - GOV.UK

because it makes it easier and my van was really cheap, if you have an expensive van then maybe you would be better off doing it another way, i dont know.

basically you can use a flat rate for the van mileage rather than claiming tax back on the purchase price, running costs and repairs , its the same with working from home allowances.[/quote

i do the same as you regarding my accounts, it seems simple enough and my part time earnings and tax liabilities are so low it doesn't really merit the cost of using an accountant. There was a time you could walk into your local tax office and talk to someone about tax matters, now you have to spend an hour on hold with a 50 50 chance they will cut you off.

I have owned a few roadsters over the years @Danfire including a MGB V8, Opel GT, MR2 (2nd Gen) and an S2000, there is nothing more fun than a roadster, I tried the first Audi TTs but at 6'4 I as too tall for the car, my landlord however is an easy 6'7 and he loves his MX5. And he is well in touch with his feminine side /emoticons/tongue.png

seems youre a worrygut type. who thinks the company and colleagues are out to get you. the truth is they wont even have noticed ur little fiddles prob doing bigger fiddles of their own
now get a grip and lets have your name and address so WE can dob you in

Well they will definitely notice he's working, if he gets a van. They will mention it. . Point is once they notice (manager) will it make him more likely to lay him off! What's a good thing to say? -" I always fancied a van as I have so much gear and I use it to do a the odd bit of work for people". That should be enough to tell people, right?

Where he works, people live from paycheque to paycheque in bedsits, constantly worried about getting fired! A guy there who gets the bonus (and consequently extra pay) doesn't tell anyone when he gets it (it is just an extra £200 over three months)as he thinks it would cause jealousy.

Again back to having a van, is it worth it with a car (financially)?

:bangheadwall: Geez, not another :swear: :BS:post ..........if my computer monitor had 'Smellyvision', my room would stink of :turd: by now.

Is your real name Richard Cranium.....

Purple comes across as one really naive person.

Jealous fellow employees phoning up HMRC haha, get real. Whether it is you or a stupid friend, if you/he was so eager to go out and find work he would do it organically.

Tell HMRC, change your working status and be a half decent human being & don't take us genuine businesses for mugs.
