who's hitting the gym now the festive period is over?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Back to the gym at 6am tomorrow and a 5k run this morning2 weeks drinking and eating :turd: has taken it's toll already

Was back to 14 stone now I reckon when i weigh myself tomorrow I'll be back in the heavyweight category (14.5 stone)

Glad it's only once a year this xmas lark
The gym I go to has been having a makeover over Xmas so it's been shut

I no some people hate the gym but for me i actually have more energy and get up and go when i train

It opens tomo and carnt wait

Neither can my missus she reckons I get cranky

Tried the gym, found it far too expensive, membership, travelling, parking etc... So spent the money on a power rack and an Olympic bar, and love it! im a bit of a fair weather runner too... So on the hunt for a quality 2nd hand treadmill...

Squats and deadlifts increase your strength very effectively and an added bonus is the rest of you gets bigger as those big muscles do

Nothing worse than isolation excercises if you're trying to get in shape..just big compound excercises until you get to the weight you want

Yeah, I've been doing Stronglifts 5x5, which is "Squats + Bench Press + Row" or "Squats + Overhead Press + Deadlift" , alternating 3 times a week and adding about 2.5kg to the lifts every workout. and its brilliant, as a beginner you get plenty of time to develop good form and still get to make progress quickly...

As long as it is done safely it is very effective but also easy to have an injury doing squats etc

As for form once you get used to it your body tells you what is good and what is not

We are all different shapes and fot example what form I use for a curl and feel it in the middle of my bicep you may copy and feel it in the lower part

That's why you need to play about and find what feels good as that will be perfect for you

I Am ! Lifted steady for about 8 yrs Now , but the last 2 Months off b cause of a gym injury . Really gave me a lack of motivation . /emoticons/sad.png

Went to the gym this morning and had a run

Just been back to the gym with my son and did squats..deadlifts and leg press

Fooked now

Sat on the bleedin sofa probably

Just having my healthy dinner of pork loin steaks with homemade lentil salad (puy lentils, tomatoes, mozzarella, avocado, olives, beetroot olive oil and balsamic vinegar)

Oh yes the diet has started:gush:

From all the squats then 160 kilo on the leg press with 5 sets of 12 i feel like i have a few jack russels hanging off the back of my legs under my arris

2 weeks off and i feel like a noob

Not so much the gym as the nearest one thats decent priced is other side of town and i cant be arsed going that far.. but i will be training on the road bike 4 times a week with a view to getting into riding long distances and events later this year.

I will probably supplement it with some upper body work on the off days but more likely to buy some free weights to train at home and more calisthetics.

Not interest anymore in getting big, more interested in keeping the fat away and looking half decent and enjoying the cycling these days.

I am not bothered about getting big

It just happens to be a by product of the way I train

The bigger the muscles the more calories you burn just by being alive

That's why i do compound movements to impact as many muscles as possible

Always do legs also as there are the biggest muscles in the body

You do get bigger but also resistance training is most effective for losing weight

Sod all this cardio lark

An occasional run and that's it

My cardio is bag training or kettlebells

All this fitness talk is making me feel guilty as I sit here drinking pints of old thumper. Must admit though....I feel pretty bloated after 2 weeks of over indulgence.

Work should sort me out......plus extra extra helpings of vigorous rumpy pumpy!
