Hey I'm with ya on that Calum. I only do 3 days a week too. Brilliant innit. I spend time with my little lady doing things that we want to. Had a drive up to fakenham today for a nice lunch. Love it

I've said it before al say it again - stop whinging about messers you lot

Build up a big round of good customers and do it 6 - 8 weeks

I work 5 days and rarely have to miss out any jobs

I can top all of your excuses, and this is a true story from my turn to WFP.

I had been cleaning this house for two years traditional and then switched to WFP, first clean explained how it all worked no bother, net clean he says 'Don't want it anymore' this is how the conversation went......

Customer: Thanks for your past service but we wont be using you any more.

Me: Oh, why is that?

Customer: I don't like your new machine

Me: Really, oh sorry is there a problem, have I left spots or marks or something?

Customer: No I just don't care for your machine, I was a painter and decorator for 50 years and when they introduced the paint roller to the UK in the 1950s councils would not let you use them, they made you continue to use a 6oz paint brush instead.

Me: So because you weren't allowed to use a paint roller 60 years ago you're sacking me?

Customer: I'm not sacking you, I just don't want you're service anymore.

Me: What's the difference?

And that boys and girls is how to lose a customer.

I didn't bother to point out the getting rid of me for moving forward with technology just cause he wasn't allowed to use a paint roller was borderline masochistic.

Customers, what you going to do

Much like when a kid lies about something, they often come out with three or more lies. Here was this evenings one, call recieved after I text to say i'm coming....
"Can you leave it this month please as I don't have any money this month, I was off work all last week as I fell off my bike, and I had to buy new waterproofs".

Random, she's been a funny one since I took her on. But this is the first cancellation. I know she's playing it up as I saw her last week cycling back from work, gave her a wave but she didnt see me. I think she might be trying to go for less cleans around winter time, in which case she will be sacked off if it happens in January too.
Lmao looking back at this post. I sacked this woman off a couple of weeks back as she tried cancelling again. Got fed up of getting messed about.

Hey chaps, I like your storys. I'm only a year and half into building my round and do text some of my customers, and about 2 i knock first, but i wonder if I can go zero tolerence? that meaning.... when I take on a new custy i just say "look i can give you a low price for a good service every 6 weeks but you need just to allow me to get on with it, no texts no excuses, for the low price and loyal service you need to make it fairly easy for me to get on with my job i.e allow me to jump gates/ just do the front if your not in, ect"

Do you think it would be possible to build a round that way. Cause the way i see it is why should a custy have to really see me at all, i do a good job, leave my small bill with three ways to pay and contact details. I do resent having to talk to a custy lower that £15 over the phone after quoting really.

All of my skippers are now getting ultimatums....usually something along the lines of "I will be changing your cleaning schedule to every 12 weeks as this more closely reflects the actual frequency of recent cleans, your new rate per clean will be £whatever. If they don't accept the new higher rate they don't get contacted again.

For years I just mostly just text or put a note though customers door to let them know I am coming tomorrow.

But with the weather we having lately l turn up my customers houses climbing over the gate then leave a note to say windows been cleaned and i be round to pick up my money up later in the day or at the weekends, If they are not around when I come , just leave the money under the door mat.

I have noticed most of my youngish customers (mostly middle aged) perfer this. I think they see it as a hassle having to remember to leave the gate unbolted or remembering leaving the money or cheque in the back garden when they got other thing to do in the morning like getting ready for work and getting their kids off to school.

I have also noticed my relationship with customers improved alot because i am seeing alot more of them now when i get my money, I think small talk help if you what i mean by just having a quick chat, before to my customers I was just a stranger to them which I think it make it easier from them to muck you about.

My older retired customers are good as gold so there no need to change anything, I just carry on texting them cos they wouldn't like me turning up unnoticed and climbing over their gate.

I also enjoying my work this way and i noticed earning more because of this arrangement.

Putting notes through the day before...coming back to collect later, these all require extra visits, driving and most importantly time...I'm lucky that the vast majority are home so I get paid on the day, the younger ones who are at work generally do a bank transfer, all others hide cheques for me. It does require a phone call or text the night before but I never need to go collecting.
