Hi , i have been using this site for years but never said hello, so saying it now. Also thank you for such helpful posts.

I am designing signage for my van and would really appreciate any advice ! What else should i add? Does it look childish? Font?

I am looking forward to what you have to say.

Thank you

Personally, I think it looks a bit cluttered, especially the bit along the bottom. I recently did my transit connect and tried my best to keep it simple and to the point. Loads of info is good for when your van is parked up and people have a chance to read it but simple is best for when you're whizzing around town. I suppose it's about trying to find something in the middle.

Hi Adams0211 and Alien Human, i like your design Adam, but i need to fit a long name on a van. What should i remove? Dont have enough space. The text will be orangy colour.

Thank you

I'd maybe look at putting the second part of the phone number on the sliding door and spreading the email address across the sliding door too. It's tricky. There's a lot of info to get on a not very big van.

I'm no expert but it looks OK to me other than being a bit cluttered but that might just be my own preference. Will you be fitting it yourself?

Thank you, i am not too worried about the bottom text , but will try and do something about it. Yeah will fit it my self like you did.

Reckon you could remove some words to make it less cluttered: service, glass and frame restoration. prob the commercial and residential too as that covers both, you don't need to mention it at all

Only time I ever used signs they were magnetic and first bit of really bad weather we had the rain got under them and they blew off. Never used them since. But I have to say I've always said if I used them again I'd keep it simple. Adam, I really like yours, and Emanuel yours is not bad either. I would leave 'Services' off and the extras under the trim on te side as it's too near the floor. But that's only me and I might be talking a whole load of nonsense./emoticons/biggrin.png:D

Your back doors are the most important because that is what gets read at traffic lights.

The stuff on your bonnet is so your mates will recognise you and wave.

Nobody has time to read whats on the side, let along remember and write down a telephone number. The near side is more important than the off side as people might stop and read it when you are parked up.

I would change window cleaning service to window cleaner or window cleaners or window cleaning like NCA has done.

Remove all the detail on the side of the van along the bottom. Get rid of the email address. It will be on your card.

In fact, copy NCA's sign written van if he doesn't mind; it's a very good example of uncluttered sign writing. You only have a flash of a second to grab a prospective customer's attention.

All a sign written van must do is spark enough interest for the reader to enquire about your services and ask for a quote.

Also ask for another quote from a different sign writer. The one you got should have advised you that you have too much information.

Hello Mark and Spruce, i agree with you, need to make it more simpler. And designing everything myself so its trial and error. Thank you!

The sides looking good to me, I'd drop the number perhaps from the front, try n get it bigger on the back, youre probably right to keep the res and commercial on second thoughts if you're keen for commercial . Think I'd drop the squeegee too but think that's personal preference

When I was selling commercial vehicles we used to use a couple of sign writers both of whom had graphic design qualifications. Both were advocates of SIMPLE.

If it was a window cleaning van one of them would have a picture of a hand holding a squeegee with a fan movement. He would have a mobile number next to that. No name, nothing else. He would say "the rest was B..S.." (That was his favourite expression.)

He always made me smile. His finished product was fantastic. He used to ask; What do you think Tony Blair should write in his CV? Does he need to list his education, any university degrees, previous work experience, etc. No. Prime Minster of UK from 1995 till 2005 (or when ever it was) was all that was needed. Anything else was waffle. It was B.. S..

The same applies to sign writing. You know your name, why do you want it on the side of your van? The customer doesn't care who you are, all he/she is interested in is having a good job done at a fair price.

Hey Jimroot, made some changes, looks better now?View attachment 9936 View attachment 9937
IMO get rid of the services you provide at the bottom. Its on the sill, gets full of road grime and the sill will start rusting in front of the back wheel.

Have 07719 on the front door and 749759 on the back sliding door. If the sliding door is open, people will still be able to read it.

You don't need an email address on the van.

Just make sure that if the van's sliding door is partially open it doesn't spell a rude or derogatory word. I was never a follower of Top Gear but I did see this one;

The "Top Gear Penistone Engineering Workshop" becomes "TOP PENIS ENGINE WORK" due to an unfortunate split in the sign.

Both sides are equally important as those are what get noticed the most in the streets, many jobs I have picked up from been in s street have come from them looking out the window reading my van and popping over.

Back of course mostly for followers in traffic.

That's mine
And that is exactly what that sign writer would do on the back and sides. He would remove your name and just have a contact number - nothing else. The picture says everything that you need to arouse the customers interest.
