Putting hose on outside of flat?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

dI in the car and fill as you go at customers too

That is a good idea. And if there was a customer who didn't have a tap, just fill up a couple more barrels from previous customer.

I am going to put twin/triple DI in car held in place by expanding foam in a tool box carrier thing so I can wheel it in and out of garage and into boot or back seat. Hopefully it will collect the drips from connectors on the DIs.

I am gonna do the black hose, junction box. It's only one annoying old man who rarely comes near my flat and if he sees the hose hanging out of window it will get his attention or me regularly using communal tap he will interfere. Just going to make sure no one trips on hose on road.

I can't help but think you may be more suited to a lawn mowing round/ business
lol.

Yeah. I thought that, but it isn't year round. Bet you don't get as many customers as well. I do do some gardening as well, but it's hassle. People complain more, interfere, and the money you make is less.

I've not had drips from my two di but I've had two floods from blown connectors so you wouldn't want them where they could spray out mains pressure, I've got mine wrapped in a duvet and tarps in the garden now off the ground

I know a guy that offers the service for 16 weeks at ex amount a visit.

For example a lawn cut at £15 per visit 16 times he multiples to get their yearly spend of £240. He then offers to divide this by the 12 months giving them a monthly grass cut of £20

He collects this on the first of each month and gives him an income all year round with Nov,Dec and Jan off

Keys to gates he just gets on with it. Although he jokes the old un's can't die on him in the winter months as he will be out of pocket

Brilliant really

Tony

Good point. That was one of the reasons I was going to wheel a sack trolley down to tap and connect it between tap and barrels in car. Then I thought, my car is old and nearly ready to scrap, so I would make a trolley which could be wheeled/pushed up a ramp/bit of wood onto back seat of car. But you're right about connectors coming off, a hose could be spraying all over the inside of car!! Drips even disconnected connectors should be collected in the trolley filled with expanding foam DIs are held in below- but it could get messy. I guess gonna have to tarp the whole back seat with the tarp coming out of door. Or push trolley back out of door and it runs through the DIs outside.

Is this the same slippy who on another forum turns out has been stealing water and electric from a old age pensioner to charge his batteries and produce water.

Ok after someone's advice on this forum I rigged up this. It runs from just outside 1st floor window snakes around the corner. Two junction boxes at either concealing the end hose connectors. Does it look good enough for the nosey parker (who is the only one in the flats who would make a problem) to not realize it's a hose? He rarely walks past this part of compound but would drive past it! The hose is quite thick (bit more than a normal garden hose) and I am worried that might be the giveaway. What you think? Hopefully, it has been up 24hrs and no warning messages from him, so far so good. Hopefully now I can actually run a business properly and make my water when I need it rather than buy it.

I think it's brilliant @slippy /emoticons/biggrin.png, better than using an old gals garage and filling up in the middle of the night /emoticons/wink.png/emoticons/biggrin.png

How does stealing water from a old aged pensioner constitute buying it. And even now now you can't just fill up with out some sort of deception if that's your ideas of running a business properly then there's hope for us all.

You have water in your tap that presumably you pay for. I see no reason why it's anybodies business how you get it from your tap to your car unless it poses some sort of risk to someone else's property (I'm thinking 'flooding' here) or contravenes some building regulation or other. In which case there may be a valid reason for someone to complain. If that happens, you shouldn't see that as someone trying to make you trouble. We all have to abide by rules. And there's usually a good reason for them.

If your neighbour or landlord objects to the installation you have put in place you will just have to hang a hose out the window as you previously suggested. As long as you are doing none of the above I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

From your previous posts though, you give the impression that you think you are doing something wrong here. As long as building regulations allow it and your landlord is OK with it you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Just try and be the kind of neighbour you would want living next door to you.

Just tried it and it works. Did it all in the dark. This is going to make my life so much easier. And if I get told to take this hose down I will just use an X hose slung out of window late at night. I cant be monitored 24/7 can I?

Of course the busy body (director of flats) would object to it. He would find some rule like altering the outside of the flat etc etc Not because he is trying to do good (no one else in the twenty flats cares) just because he makes £5000 from maintenance as he's a director and he's old and got no life and likes to interfere with everybody lives. He annoys everyone living here. You say it's someone enforcing rules as a good thing. In his case, he's on a power trip. I am nervous though as I hate all this sneaking around.

My neighbours are all really cool and one saw me installing it. When he saw it he was shocked, but I had the ladder and tools everywhere so it was obvious I was doing something. He said no one in our block would care but busy body definitely would (lives around the corner). I asked him if he would notice it and he said he might, but it wasn't fully attached to the walls at that time.

But it isn't a flood risk. If the connector came off my tap in the kitchen I would know about it and the water would run into the sink. no serious incident would happen. The junction box in the photo near the window isn't connected to anything. When I want to use it I connect a small piece of hose from kitchen sink to the box. Absolute worse case scenario I would need mop up a bit of water if somehow the tap swung onto the worktop.

Sounds like the 'busybody' may be your building manager otherwise he would have no authority. If he kicks up a stink, ask to talk to his superior. They may or may not confirm his concerns. They may tell him he is overstepping his authority, and to leave you alone. On the other hand they may confirm his decision. In which case you are back to hanging hose out the window.

If he isn't the building manager but just someone who likes to interfere, contact your landlord and speak directly with them. If they have concerns they will communicate them to you. If they are OK with it and your neighbour tries to interfere you can just tell him you have cleared it with your landlord.

Be open about what you are doing. As long as there's no rule to say you can't use water from your tap you're doing nothing wrong, so don't hide it. Sneaking around in the dark will get you noticed and people will assume you are doing something wrong. You're running a business that requires you to use water.

Not really read the thread but why could you not fill up at a custies/friend/relative and double dI on demand. Or ask local shops/businesses etc to use there tap in exchange for window cleaning. Or use a local garage and fill up with the jetwash. The other way I thought of when I lived in a flat was to fill up barrels in the bath. Get a large trolley that will move a few at a time and put them in the van. Do away with the van mount and just use a trolley

yeah I need another source of water if this hosepipe things fails. My girlfriend and baby are moving to downstairs flat with a garden and I have asked her. she is so nervous about following rules that I got a strong no from her when I asked about getting an outside tap fitted. You would think as her child maintenance money comes from my earning she would want to help.

Shops and garages hey! I asked the council and local water board and there's no facilities to fill up and pay for it. they said however some people steal it from water hydrants lol and have been reported. Who would have thought that something so cheap would be so inconvenient to get! Maybe I could ask some businesses and garages. It would need to be as and when (within reason) I needed it. For example, there's a place that sells pure water cheaply I know, but it's from 4-5pm weekdays only and that's just isn't always going to work it needs to be more flexible with the times.

Are there no farms close to you? They rent out units with water and electric. A farmer may just let you use a tap to fill up daily for a monthly clean?
