I never charge extra for first cleans because i dont get that many enquiries! so try to snare the ones i do get.

If they dont want a second clean it is annoying but thats the game we play

Paint, cement, glue etc or anything that requires scraping is a different matter i would charge extra for that

Yeah I never get many minging cleans either - I feel jealous of some of pics of you guys jobs - new jobs I get are usually cos they sacked other guy or just moved etc as there's loads of windys in this town

This does annoy me. You sell yourself as a window cleaner.... this means you clean the window... not just selective types of dirt from the window.

Unless you have previously told the customer 'Oh I only rinse off light dust luv, not paint spots or cement' then you are doing half a job.

Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick I think he was saying that he does clean paint spots and cement but charges accordingly. I kind of thought that was what we all did? The odd cement mark or paint spot would be removed as part of the regular service but windows requiring lots of extra attention (caked in cement or covered with paint spots from a fence sprayer) would need extra time spent on them and therefore there would be an additional charge.

I don't even class paint splatter as part of a first clean anymore, unless it's just the odd window. If they are a good customer then I may take it off a window at a time on each subsequent clean, and make a mention of it as I go. But if after the first clean I find that the windows are all covered then I will charge another first clean price the next time. Scraping a clean window (on the second clean) is also much easier, and safer then scraping a dirty one.

what i do now [on initial enquiry] is ask "do you want a regular monthly clean or just a 1 off,im happy to do one offs if thats all you want, same price too" [i raise my voice cheerily towards end of sentence ,sounding the hero]

of course im lying ,nobody wants cleaning a filthy 1 off,but at this point the customer thinks wahey im into something good here. they then sometimes umm and ahh a bit ,cant bleve what theyre hearing, i mean this suckers goin to come clean my green window frames for a tenner . after a bit more cheering chat i find out when they were last cleaned and chip in,that a one offs fine, is that what you want?

if they reply no i really want monthly then the jobs a good un and i go

if the 1 off is what they want i dont book it in,i say i will call in and take a peep when passing by. course i never pass that way-and never will!

Noooo. What I'm saying is on a first clean I don't charge extra in general unless it has paint, cement, adhesive or anything that needs scraping off and will take me a lot longer.

Most houses don't need scraping so I don't generally mention it but if I get there and it's covered in paint I will let them know it will be extra.

Sounds fair to me

How come Adam?? Even I get enquiries from Wakefield and I don't even go there, I only do Leeds. Priced a 3 bed semi with a small extension at £20 a month in Lupset and she was over the moon. I gave it to a mate. But surely there's plenty of work around.

The mate isn't wakefield window cleaners by any chance?

Leeds is a much more popular search term.

It's the same with my car valeting most enquiries are leeds

Nah he's fairly new to it, bought some work. He did say prices were pretty poor. I just think it's all in how you sell it.

If the customer thinks they are getting value for their money, they'll pay it!

Ok. Just that yesterday I got a fb message wanting a quote on lupset. I quoted her £12...She then saud had just acepted a quote of £18 for a 3 bed semi but her partner wanted to cancel as he said too expensive.

Just wondered if it was your mate.

Yes prices are poor. There's a round for sale in lupset on ebay, 160 house with an average price of 5-6 quid

Explain to customers that the first clean takes longer to bring up to your standard then give new customers 3rd clean half price they should stay with you if they want to pay what you charge if not they won't stay with you. If after that your know that your charging high for that area
