Their company ethos is to do a good job. The owner of this business has been an inspiration to me over the years. Apparently his wife did the website. It does look good tbh.

I think the cost of living is high in Southampton. The wife has friends down there and their monthly rent for a tiny 3 bedroomed place is astronomical. Groceries, fuel etc are the same as up North.

I have a lot of family in Southampton and they wouldn't pay those prices

Good luck to him but that is taking the **** a bit for that area

Maybe round Beaulieu and the rest of the new forest but not Southampton or Eastleigh etc

The areas he covers are on that map on his website. I don't know Southampton at all. I guess every town or city in the UK has it's poor areas. But his business is growing so there are people out there who are willing to pay those prices.

He got started in window cleaning when his window cleaner did a poor job and skipped the bathroom window. He was sick that day and happened to be lying in the bath when he window cleaner arrived banging his ladders. When the windie went around the front, a quick wipe of his finger through the open window showed it was grey with dirt. After a verbal confrontation at the front door over skipping the bathroom window and the windie insisting he cleaned it, the windie was cancelled.

His motivation was that there must be customers like himself out there willing to pay a good price for a first class job.

Unfortunately we started window cleaning in a poor area. The customers were usually in to pay, but a 50p price increase meant we lost work. In hindsight I should have dumped that work many years ago and canvassed our business in other surrounding areas that were more affluent. We still have some lovely old dears in those areas but we work our butts off for little financial reward even although are competitors are selling their services cheaper.

In this same ex council estate we had a lovely old dear (one of my favourite customers) who was living in her council house alone as she was a widow. She had been in it all her life - she raised her family there. She always used to complain about how poor she was and how life was a such a financial struggle. Her family used to help her out as well. How did the government expect us old pensioners to live on the pension they give us she would moan. She didn't drink or smoke. Her house was nice and clean, furniture immaculate but dated.

When she died she stunned everyone in her family by leaving behind £254,000 in her bank account. When her son told me I just laughed and so did he; she conned us all. I don't think any of them had seen the funny side before that.

So just because someone lives in a poorer area doesn't mean they don't have money. Whether they want to spend it or not is another story. /emoticons/biggrin.png

About rite if you think about it break it down you say he is charging £27 every 12 weeks so would equate to £13.50 for a 6 week clean so he has doubled it fair play to him he is obviously is'ent ******* about with customers who think they are going to get a cheaper service for having less frequent cleans also if he is doing a top class professional job then there getting what they pay for a quality job respect to him as this is how he makes his living i wish him every success although it sounds like he is all ready successful

How good a job can you do though before it gets daft? I would have thought most cleaners on here ethos is to do a good job as thata how we get repeat work etc.

I would question whether his £27 clean is any better than my £10 clean.

Fair play to him though just goes to show if you can sell it they will pay it.

You wouldn't think those prices were in the same country as guts up north doing a terraced for 3-4 quid

It looks as though the chap is clearly successful so hats off to him.

My only ? when it comes to giving a price list is when it comes to 4-5 bedrooms. I have some 4 beds which are a £20 clean - others closer to £200.

Obvioisly the £20 is based on 'cookie cutter' new build housing.

Folks in 4 bed houses where each bedroom has a larger footprint than my whole home know they aint getting £20

Folk need to stop worrying about what others are doing and just crack on with their own business. Theres no need to compete in this game, and no good customer will make you compete either. Looking at someone else's job and saying that they are charging too much is detrimental to the trade IMHO. I wonder how many plumbers do the same, and they're usually dealing with much bigger numbers then us.

That's true Tolish:)

Only thing that i would say is that it's helpful for those starting out to be able to compare a bit. When I was first starting out I soon realised (mainly thanks to spending time on this forum) that my prices had to go up.
