Just been is asda for lunch...

My best friends been in for years, very high up, his sister is actually married to one of the top SAS guys, keeps asking him to join but his hearts not in it anymore, only has 6 years to go until he leaves.

I was into all that kind of stuff for years as well, I failed the marine selection due to my eyesight, which apparently isn't an issue these days but was then.

My mates actually in the army (artillery) but in the marines, always takes the **** out of the navy marines lol

The navy is the best of the armed forces mate

Royal marines are navy

Sbs

They have all the good planes like the harrier etc (old but still unbeaten ..a handfull of them changed the course of the falklands)

Proper hard buggars

All this talk of heights is making me feel queesy. I'm ok up to the gutters but ******** to anything higher than that.

I had a nasty head injury from a fall in my late teens and haven't liked heights since then.

You can be a royal marine from the army as well, my friend is.

Fell over a wall and landed on my head about ten feet down the other side. It was pretty bad and I was left with pretty bad scarring on my forehead. I had surgery on the scars in my early twenties to make them look better. Ten years on and you can hardly notice it although I'm surprised you've never noticed it before.

You can be a marine from the army @Diwrnach but you are on detachment to the royal navy while you are serving in the marines

No matter anyway as at least he hasn't got a stupid red beret with wings on it..bleedin nancy boys lol

He is artillery which I think is why. Obviously done all his commando training etc.

Nearly 40 now and been in since he was 18 I think.

He is struggling with it all mentally though.

We meet up and go carp fishing for a few days, drink a bottle or three of JD and he unloads on me a bit.

Some of his stories are...... harsh.

Yeah

My uncle is 1st battalion fuslieers

They are always in the thick of it

Some of the stories make me glad i missed both the gulf conflicts and Afghanistan

I was too young for the first by a matter of weeks and too old for the second

Never been called up for it

Its bad mate, they also can't get counselling for any of it either as it goes on their permanent record.

Bloody daft.

The worst thing is whatever stories you've heard, the worst ones are usually unspoken. There's things that happened in Afghanistan that I haven't told anyone, and I have no intentions of talking about it. It's a case of no-one would get it unless they were there. I'll be the 1st to admit when I got out I went to a GP as my head was a mess. Did it through the NHS and kept it on the quiet from the head shed
