CIS registration for builder's cleans?

Has anyone else had to do this? Local building firm had just asked me to take on all their cleans before they hand over the keys to new customers. Apparently I need to be registered with the CIS for them to use me.

Registering looks pretty straight forward, but it looks like it will make accounting a little bit more complex. I currently do my own accounts.

Above had any experience of this?

No it's all pretty straight forward

I had one and most big building firms require one

They may also ask you to do a onsite induction as well

Thanks guys. Yep, they take 20% which counts towards my tax and NI bill at the end of the year by the looks of it.

If it's s doddle then I guess I'll be dating yes to the guy /emoticons/smile.png

Hi Beccy,

I don't know what your tax situation is and its none of our business, but if you work part time you probably won't earn enough to pay tax. Claiming it back from the tax man is done at the end of the tax year when you submit your tax return. That means they will have your money for a year or less, depending on when you get paid.

Thanks spruce, I think this tax year I will end up paying tax, so having some already paid on account won't be a bad thing at all, and if not, a little surprise rebate is always nice!

It's easy, ring up hmrc and register for the scheme. When you do your self assessment, there's a box to fill in saying what tax you've paid. You will then be rebated accordingly.

You may consider getting cscs card if you're going down that route.£40 and a simple test to do.
