Hi all,

does anyone charge a higher price for leaded windows?

used to clean them when working for a company was always told to be careful with them, yes i know easy breakable, lol

We talking windows built up with lead and glass or glass with lead stuck on? The latter don't take any longer than the the same Windows without lead, so I don't charge any more for them. I just use a flocked brush to reduce risk of lifting the lead and crack on. The former I haven't seen in years so have never tackled them with WFP. I imagine they would leak like the proverbial seive.

not seen a lead window that dont leak yet, lol not sure ill find out tomorrow im guessing its old original lead windows,

i remember doing a church in middle of bath all windows in/out by hand

joy lol

We have also found that its best to reduce the flow.

Gardiner's Ultimate. Haven't tried others so can't compare it. I like the relatively short bristles on the ultimate. Makes it work well on a swivel

I have a house with proper leaded lights and they are really delicate and leak every time. A give the pane a quick splash, rub, and then a very quick rinse. You can see the water dripping down inside everytime. Custy never says owt about it.

Been looking at the ultimate but from a £26.00 brush total after postage over £42 big jump

You can always find something else to add to the order until you get free delivery. £26.00 + VAT isn't an expensive price for a brush. Add a second type of brush to try.

For me there are always Fiberdyne carbon block filters that can be ordered. The next pending add on will be some smart clamp upgrades. Then there is a long anticipated flow control valve in the pipeline that could also be a consideration.

There is also another 100m of hose to be replaced at some point.

There is always a list of small incidentals like o clips, EZ Snap hose connectors, etc.

You can log in and run a wish list which you add to if you need something. Always good to refer to it to add any little extras to avoid postage.

That's true spruce the brush is not the problem its like £7 + vat postage for a tops 400g item

Unfortunately, postage costs do seem expensive these days. It cost me £7.95 to send a parcel via MyHermes with a 48 hour delivery time last week. If I wanted to ensure the parcel for the true value of the contents then I would have to have added a further £5.95.

When you consider what the costs are to get the parcel half way across the country, £7.95 isn't that much. I spent around half an hour packaging it up, labeling it and then I took it to a local collection point.

I could have had it collected for a further 35p but that would mean I would have to be in when the driver came to collect.

It's a business expense so although its got to be earned, it is a tax deduction.

If your need the item to better do your job then you must buy it. Its not something you will use once, it will last for months and earn you money. I find it takes much longer to clean a house with leaded windows, whether genuine leaded or 'fake leaded with a stiff brush as you have got to be careful and work slowly. The time it saves using a flocked brush will pay the postage many times over during its life time.

Whilst I agree that being thrifty with regard to expenses is a good way to keep a tight reign on costs, sometimes we can overdo it and that ends up costing us money in the long run.

If you want a shock then check out what Ionics want for one of their brushes.

Thats my opinion anyway. /emoticons/smile.png

I don't know as I've never used it. I'm sure there will be someone come along who has and will be able to make a recommendation inline with their experience.

We've been using Gardiner Brushes for years now.

For leaded we have a dedicated CLX22 pole with a medium mixed extreme brush fitted. Its light and works for us. We only have 2 houses with those old leaded windows. Because they are so 'delicate' we take the weight off the brush and just 'tickle' the glass.

I have a Vikan flocked brush on another pole which I use for all bungalows with leaded windows. Although the brush is heavy and not an ideal window cleaning brush at height, it works nicely on leaded windows.

I've heard good things about the XLine flocked brush. Have not tried it myself yet but if it's anything like their EvoLite mono it'll be good.

I have my two main brushes fitted with Gardiner's Q-loq fittings, so whichever I'm using its counterpart is hanging on the trolley ready for a quick changeover. Takes seconds.
