he is doing some graft 1000l tank one reel
Not only does a tank of that size seem dangerous, but surely the cost of dragging that weight around(tyres, brakes, diesel, ect) must be a wedge! I think for the next couple of years at least even if I became very busy I'd rather have no more than a 250l and fill up a couple times if I have too!

ive got to vans fitted out with bigger tanks then that and there fine however they are baffled and wedge, plus strapped in ,
when I was working in dhl I would pick up one of these every other day full of pure water all brand new and drop it off at the local paint factory for them to make paint with , I was using a transit 350, with uprated springs on the back , all strapped in with 5 tonne straps and buy god did it rock the van every light , every round about you knew that thing was on there
noddy what vans are you using and size of tanks ta

transits mate but are the more rare bigger weight carryers as I will only have the fwd 2.2 ones and not the crappy 2.4 rwd long wheel base rubbish , ive had over 15 of them never again

1. is a low roof , short wheel base 330 6speed fwd

2. is a low roof , med. wheel base 350 6speed fwd

both are limited too 60mph and return very good mpg

i rolled up to a gutter cleaning job today and there was a window cleaning van on the street, anyway i'm a nosey sort of guy so took a few photos of the set up.give me your honest answers guys who would feel safe driveing around with that in the back,i know most of us have seen it before but honest comments please and i'll reveal who it is later(don't worry its no one on here )
ive been in a van, with one of those tanks bolted and strapped.. the straps soon came off, yet it stayed put. I don't know how, the driver was a nutter.

when im in a van it will be baffled. though im thinking of getting one of these to store my water in my garden.

I would imagine that as a used IBC tank is cheap, that's a good reason to fit it.As a single operator that should last him quite some time. One of the jobs I hate is uncoiling the hose every morning to fill the van.
thanks for the tip, i didn't realise how cheap those tanks are. /emoticons/smile.png

gd info noddy what size tanks mate
we have 1200 lt in them both , however they only ever have around 850/900 in unless we on solar farms or a few big sites we have , its nice to have know that we can if needed to carry big loads of water

our 330 as a tacho fitted in it as we get use of a 1000lt water trailer which when van and trailers full come in at just under 5 tonne ! all legal and well with in its train weight

Must of been another company before as were they get money from to pay canvassers then when canvassers get them jobs they pay someone a wage to clean them ( so at first make a loss) as would not have enough for 1 guys wage and make profit.

Then van equipment uniform etc etc all to be paid before making a profit

If you don't mind me asking @noddy , what does the tacho regulations require of you with regard to conformity on a day to day basis?

I would imagine that keeping to the driving/rest periods wouldn't impact on your business much.

Do you need regular vehicle road worth inspections like the vehicles above 7.5T do according to mileage?

Did you actually need to fit a tacho in the first place?

I doubt they came out of no where mate. Sure they seem to be growing at a massive rate but that's what happens once you get the ball rolling.

I had an interview for a job with them going back about 3 years ago. All I remember is the bloke doing the interview telling me the owner wants to dominate the uk domestic market. If u look at the areas they cover he sure seems to be headed in the right direction.

having the tacho fitted is great as we only use it when the trailer is on , because of the weight and were using it for hire and reward (making profit ) any other time there no need to have it in as the vans under 3.5 tonne some say if its under 50mile from base your ok but again this is a gray area

thing is with the tacho the laws are so gray ive had three meeting with vosa and you cant get a straight answer from them , best I got was its down to the officer and how he reads the rule book weather I needed the tacho or not ! not one would put it in writeing , so I just fitted it anyway , because its under 7.5 tonne no need for inspections ect ect

Never seem them round my areas, would be a hard market to 'dominate' as the trade is made up of many a one man band that built up great relationships with customers, I'd say it's prob far easier to dominate the commercial sectors if that was what you wanted to do.

Thanks for the reply Noddy. I found that very helpful.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was totally confused by the tacho regulations. I also thought that once fitted you were obligated to use the tacho at all times.

There was an interesting article in one of the fleet magazines a few years back regarding a 4 x 4 double cab pickup needing a tacho if it was towing a digger on the back of a trailer. We often see this around our area and I often wonder how many of them have tachos fitted.

I'm aware of the 7.5 ton inspection regulations, but I believed that having a tacho fitted to lower class vehicles 'drew them into the regular inspection net.' I often wondered how that applied to the 4 x 4 example. I have thought on occasion that the heaviest trailer I could tow is 750kgs with my van as the combination (train) weight would exceed 3.5 t if I went any heavier. So my understanding of the tacho rules ruled that out as a consideration.

I think all the confusion is trying to unite UK regulations and EU regulations. It should have been either one or the other. Lets hope that we get back to a single regulation which is more clear.

This applies to drivers licences as well. What stupid regulations that allow an older driver to drive a 7.5 t on a standard drivers licence whereas a younger driver needs to take and pass a different class vehicle category to drive the same vehicle.
