Hey Chaps, is it me or is the exceed tube less stuff abit pricey for what it is? I've just set up the univalve and tubeless system, which needs some more tinkering with, but within 5 minutes I've split the hose stay and now I have it in my hand I've realised I paid £10 for the ejector sleeve, which is really just a small bit of plastic that can't have cost much to produce and ship! Granted, we are buying a business product and it's a helpful bit of kit, but £10 for that tiny bit..... really?

I hope I can get the whole thing working well in couple of days but atm I feel abit disappointed.

Though I have ejector sleeves you don't need them if you make a removeable pole spacer. (The bit of tube you slide over the top section of the pole) I just cut a bit out of the side of it so it can be snapped on and of the pole from the side. When you want to remove your hose from the pole, just unclip it, slide the pole down and there's your connector.

A three inch piece of 1/2inch garden hose will do. Just make one cut down the side of it with a Stanley knife and clip it over your pole.

Personally for me it was a waste of money in less than an hour I binned it , The easiest thing to do is get a straight inline push fitting cut pole hose a few inches after the base cap on pole place a push fit stem to barb fitting on to that end then push other end of hose into inline push fitting takes less than a minute and total cost is about £2 .

That's like i did

Cut pole hose so it just sticks out the bottom of the pole

Stick a john guest 8mm pushfit on to rejoin hose

Job done

Cost about a quid for the jg fitting

Keep the 1st section extended about 3cm and the connector is hidden

I've had the exceed kits two months, they've saved time and hassle for me and I thought the customer service and product worth the money

the part might not be spectacular but to fabricate one yourself in the time it takes to earn £10 might be a challenge

Hi I'm thinking of getting the tubeless kit as i now want to use the univalve.Im not sure what i need, do i really need to buy the stage 1 part of the kit ? Is it just a standard rectus 21 connector with plastic cover and some blue hose? My current pole hose is the all season gardiner type maybe too stretchy ? Maybe i only need part 2 of the kit and then buy a female rectus connector and put some tape round it to stop it scraping on inside of pole, and add a spacer as you show here.

Mate, do yourself a favour and don't bother buying anymore than the following:

Univalve = Brilliant!

Gardiner orange PU hose = brilliant

Exceed hosestay = ok but overpriced

Exceed pole bung = ok but overpriced and you need to pack out with tape

I found the other bits a let down and not needed

You could get away with the yellow Gardiners hose but only for a short while and if it is a sweltering day then it might well get too stretchy and brake

I can't comment on there blue hose because I haven't got it but has good reviews

I agree with Kenny and can add that Exceeds blue PU hose is also excellent if you can get it. Any 8mm PU hose should work as it is less stretchy than PVC hose when warm.

The blue PU hose is a nightmare when not on a reel it twists and kinks, as pole only hose it's excellent but as I don't use minibore or microbore I'm looking for good 5mm hose best I have used so far is Sureclean 5mm yellow but would like to try rhino where do you buy it?

I've now decided I need the tubeless setup as the hose keeps wrapping around the pole and it's annoying. If i just buy part 2 of the kit what do i then need to make the quick connect at the end of the pole ?

Will that connector take the strain of pulling on the hose or does it need to be replaced every now and then ?

Quality ones like Gardiner's sell last ages. They do break eventually but are cheap as chips compared to rectus fittings and can be changed in seconds. So if you do use them keep some spares on board. If you are using it with a univalve fitted you will want to fit the stem to barb fittings others have mentioned, to your hose on both sides of the JG connector as they are much more resistant to coming out of the JG connector. They do these with a 5 or 6mm barb to fit whatever hose you are using.

Push-Fit 8mm to 8mm Straight Connector - Metric Fittings - John Guest Fittings - Hose Fittings & Adapters - Pump & Hose - All Products Gardiner Pole Systems

Push-Fit 8mm Stem to 5mm Barb - Metric Fittings - John Guest Fittings - Hose Fittings & Adapters - Pump & Hose - All Products Gardiner Pole Systems

Thanks for help, was just thinking do you really need a bung when going tubeless if you make a detachable spacer as you did and use a jg straight connector ?

The bung in the bottom of section one of your pole is to keep the hose centred so it comes through the center of the pole cap when you close the pole. Not absolutely necessary but it can be a pain when the hose gets caught inside the pole. I used a tube bung like this one and drilled out the centre as you can see in the picture on my diy jobbie
