Hi all.

I just wanted to know are the ro filters on a van different to the ones that produce so many gallons per day ? Do they still produce waste water and if so is it just returned into the main water tank ?

No, they still produce waste. the water filters before going in the tank so the waste goes down the drain...

A van system is just a normal ro but stuck in the van

As long as you can park where you can send the waste to drain it will be fine

Sorry so how can the RO on a van produce water so fast i thought they were slow ? Does the tank on a van have normal tap water in then it goes through a RO then through a DI ?

No the van is parked up overnight

The water supply from the house is connected to the ro in the van

The ro produced water then goes in to the tank

The waste goes down a drain

Exactly the same as making the water into a tank in the garden but cutting out the need for a holding tank

The only issue with that is if you have a bad day and use all your water you can't nip home and quickly pump water on from your storage as you don't have any

A 4040 r/o, which is or was the most common in van system produces water much faster than a 300 GPD r/o.

A 4040 costs a lot more than a 300 GPD.

.... or if you forget to turn the tap on then you got no water to work with the following day.

When we first started we processed water directly into our trailer. The r/o was out the back next to the back tap. I lost track of the number of times the tap wasn't turned on over the years. The trouble was that the tap was also used to water the garden, so was easily changed over to water the garden by another family member and not switched back again.

Sorry is a good word and works wonders, but it doesn't fill the tank with pure water. Having no water to work with is another wasted day if you have a tiny r/o.

Obviously if you aren't able to process water into a storage tank then you have no choice but to put an r/o into your van. But I would always recommend a separate IBC storage to draw from as and when you need it.

Water is one of our core products - no water means no work. IMO you need more water available than you could possibly ever use in a day.

I'm looking now to produce pure at home into a storage tank i only need one that would do 400gpd with a DI filter on it any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have the 450gpd from collinswaterproducts on ebay works perfect for what I need another member on here pointed me in the right direction, the only thing I would suggest though if you need a DI vessel is not to get the 10" resin filter but to get a 11 litre resin vessel as it lasts a lot longer and don't have to refill as often.

What's your water pressure?

Mine is a collins 450gpd but will make a litre every minute and a half which is 40lph..still 10 hours starting about 8am and i have 400l again by 6pm..i have 600l of storage so always have some in reserve

Won't get quicker than that really without a 4040

As long as it is going into a storage tank leave it on as long as you have to

Mine goes on when i get up in the morning and then goes off when i go to bed if i have used a lot as i sometimes refill in the early afternoon as my round is in a circle around my house..i am never much more than 3 miles from home for a refil

This is where it is worth stepping up IMO.

I have a 20inch RO. And can produce 125 liters per hour to the van.

Soon to build a shed and put an IBC or two in there so gonna take the RO outa the van and have it in the shed.

Also going to add a booster pump so should be able to produce 2000 liters in just 8 hours. Not that I need that much but rather have more than not /emoticons/smile.png)

I can produce 1000l daily if i wanted but would be running almost all the time

If i got to the point i need that much water i would get a 4040

I may get a booster but not sure how much quicker it would be

I produce at 4ppm anyway so must have good pressure and even with more pressure you can never get a membrane to produce much lower than that
