your brothers are Tesco shelf stackers ?
You're a funny boy!

My older brother is a Gemologist and runs the most exclusive jewelry store in the Channel Islands, my kid brother has hiss own printing business.

Sole point is is that cleaners are exceedingly well paid as long as they bother to put in the effort. I bet your lovely lady aint complaining about the boot in the readies with all these roofs your knocking out! /emoticons/smile.png

Tell you all one thing being on the windows is much nicer than being sat in an office 9-5 every day. It's great in the winter in the warm and dry but I swear sitting on my ass all day is actually slowly killing me.

I really want to diversify into something else, but something fairly passive, just not sure what, was thinking about property development, just hire builders in etc, but I don't think there is as much money in it these days as there used to be, plus it needs a massive investment.

Yeah - I enjoy my job but it would be nice to sell it one day and do something less physical

Perhaps I could present the One Show that looks easy

That would scare the **** outa me, I would have a heart attack getting in contractors. They would have to have references from Lizzy herself!! /emoticons/smile.png)

Time to fly the coup then buddy

You got the gear haven't you for softwash etc??

I'm sorting a pressure washer etc when i get back from holiday and then gonna be at it a lot more than i am now

We'll have to have a catchup Jim as we haven't spoken properly for a while

Been doing a lot of softwash and gutters/fascias etc lately after having a couple of months doing just windows and have decided what way i want my business to go nowStick with the round i have and drop any messers and **** jobs etc

Do more softwash and start pressure washing

Have been slowly getting fed up with chasing small payments when i can do 2 jobs in a day and make the same as 2 days on the glass

Possibly get a bit of a life back also

Anyone else fed up with it and thinking of diversifying?

As you probably know i have always done various things, car valeting, carpets, pressure washing, gutters, connys etc and didnt start the windows till later.

But yes as much as i love simple, regular nature of windows ive found thats its much nicer to do a big job and get a lump of cash in your hand rather than having to chase payements. In fact i needed the one off jobs a lot when building the round as the money just wasnt coming in fast enough form the windows.

In my experience with it, and i have been thinking about this a lot lately as ive got busier with the windows is that overall i would prefer to keep doing everything. I think a full window round on the whole would have much lower overheads and probably bring in more money on a consistent basis, (i reckon 250-300 a day is possible on the glass eventually). However having many income streams not only has a benefit of getting the lump payments but it also gives you more flexibility with your time.

Im at about 180 customers with the windows now and i want to get it to 200 and keep it there and do other stuff.

Having multiple options also allows you to put prices up easier, if you offer 7 or 8 services and market them you can get more enquiries and get thos prices right up.

Im actually in the process of re structuring my business at the moment to target different work. I am building a new website with all my services offered on there, and importantly getting EVERY customers email address to sign them up to a quarterly newsletter/reminder. Will be advertising in local magzazines and leafletting constantly in my area. The idea is to build a name for the business, get it seen locally and known as a one stop solution for all aspects of property cleaning. Just started doing this this last couple of weeks and got 3 repeat conservatory cleans booked in for 6 months time. I think its important when targetting other work to make it repeat work by offering things such as maintenance packages etc.

I like window cleaning, but wouldnt want to do it everyday, its a bit boring in that its almost too easy, theres no marketting or sales involved after you have enough work, its just get up go to work and come home. I like to keep the old brain ticking by looking at new ventures, this last week ive done 3 or 4 different jobs and enjoyed it.

I will be adding softwashing next

I like the big jobs and 1 offs

Yesterday was fascias and conny roofs

Wednesday was softwash day

Did a conny in and out and hypo'd the roof

Told her i could do the paving all the way round the bungalow and driveway with the stuff and she was interested so did a little spot round the side where it would not be seen and she was very impressed so have that booked for after my holiday

I was originally recommended to her by her daughter who's conny i did

I am getting a lot of work like that

Yep, since signwriting my van with all my services ive seen a big increase in bigger jobs. I now get a lot of "oh you also do blah can i have a quote"

Once they trust you and you do a good job for one services there much more likely to use you for everything than loo else where.

I did windows monday, tuesday, wednesday i did a carpet clean and a conny, thursday i ended up doing pressure washing, gutters and conny roof at a house who had originally just booked me for conny roof. Friday i did a car valet and ended up doing her gutters and booking the neighbour in.

I wouldnt recomnend car valeting in general as i get asked a lot to do a wash or a quick vaccum and there just isnt enough money in it, but i now only do full valets or machine polishing etc which isnt bad. But ideally i will still get rid of that service in time takes up too much space on my van for all the gear
