seen a few lads doing this on fb with either the stuff you buy ready mixed of mixing their own hypo

a tip i just picked up & have used with excellent results on 2 first cleans with connys is to put 500ml of asda bleach ( 40p worth ) in 20 ltrs of water in my backpack & spray everything down & scrub & finish off with pure, the hypo is in the bleach but in safe amounts so no worries

pole & hose was clean by rinsing the houses & just fill backpack & run it dry twice

If it does the job it. Does....

For Fsg cleaning etc... If u pre spray. It with a cleaning aid .. Whether its ubik which I use.. Hypo 1-2% mix or bleach. It will all work

Hello Chaps, just wondering if anyone cleans G,F,S by softwashing them or if it's even possible? if so is it much quicker than WFP?

There is a misunderstanding about what 'softwashing' actually is, using WFP for cleaning a surface is softwashing, using a decking brush with some hypo to clean a patio is softwahing, it is not just a spray on and rinse off situation, you will hear many softwash lads talking about how they 'agitate' the hypo or whichever choice of chems.

Softwashing put simply is using a 'non aggressive' approach as opposed to the 'brute force' approach of a pressure washer.

But in answer to your question, yes, a few of the lads are using ssoftwashing for SFG.

I use soft washing on all my SFG jobs

Spray on u bik

Agitate with four inch paint brush

Wipe dry with sill cloth

Job done

Yeah i know, just thought this was easier / safer than using hypo. The stuff i get is 11% i would have no idea what ratio to use on fsg etc. I've used it neat on paving though

Depends on the strength of your hypo

Mine is 15% so 1l hypo to 14l water makes it 1%

1l hypo to 7.5l water is 2%

i thought softwash meant either hypo or some kind of biocide & the lads on fb who use it seemed to be buying it ready mixed, which i thought was expensive compared to cheap bleach, but i suppose mixing your own hypo down to 1% would be even cheaper

The stuff on FB is all just pre mixed or diluted.

Davey shared a link with me earlier for 15% hypo at 25L drums for £25 delivered.

To get down to 1% that's a dilution of approx 7.5/1 that gives around 187 liters of useable product meaning the cost is approx 13 pence per liter.

Don't come much cheaper than that.

I've done a few jobs lately with 1% mix and still have loads left as it seems to last ages

Once you start doing driveways etc it will go quicker though

Do you use UBIK and Hypo or just one or the other?

Do they do the same job?

Isn't Hypo dangerous if you are spraying it on gutters and getting splash back all over you or is the concentration so weak it doesn't do any harm?

What about plants under where you are spraying Hypo?

The hypo is more aggressive.

Ubik is more user friendly.

I like Ubik for UPVC work. Spray on at 10/1 (which is a strong dillution) aggitate with brush quickly and rinse off.

No Hypo and UBIK are not the same and there is no need to use them together.

Thanks, when the stuff I am using runs out I will get some UBIK, don't really like the sound of using Hypo as I have seen what it does to clothes.

I am going to the Show in September so will have a good look round and have a chat to suppliers are hopefully pick up some goodies.

At 1% i don't worry about overspray if using my converted harris pole sprayer as it is such a fine spray in the air but if i am using wfp to apply i will soak everything first to be safe

Green is right there is no need to use hypo on fascias etc unless if you use it like i did for dormer sides etc inaccessible with wfp to scrub

Sprayed off a ladder and job done
