DIY water fed hand brush

I don't like waving the whole pole around when cleaning low windows, so I built a new hand held water fed brush. The brush is a simple mid range car cleaning brush, of course completed with 3D printed parts. I probably should have cleaned off the tape residue first, but was in a hurry to try it out. Taking it for a spin tomorrow.

Files are as of course open source, and available at youmagine.

That looks incredible mate! Good on you, it'll certainly be light, quicker than pole, and if it had another push fitting further down (maybe it has) you can swap it our for the pole brush head quickly!

Long term, the only reason I may side with sticking to the pole is that I've noticed your arms actually move less than they would with hand tool or a hand brush. (Not that I plan on being on the glass forever). I know longterm trad window cleaners suffer RSI in their wrists/elbows and shoulders even due to so much identical movement on the applicatior/squeegee which could be a similar issue with the brush. Not a huge problem either way!

Well done for being creative! I wouldn't be surprised if this is on the market in the next 6 months by the big wfp names!

Took it for a spin today, and it works fine. The brush head is of course a bit small for larger windows. And as I suspected the 4mm tubing should be equal length, as the shorter one does have a higher pressure.

I do have a push fit connector on my pole that fits the blue hose just like with the brush, so I can swap them pretty fast. I plan on adding another connector to the pole hose so I don't have to move around with the stiffer blue one.

The building of this brush mainly came to fruition because of a single customer where I clean the frames every month, which are a bit tall and a pain to reach with towels. In addition I intend to use it on a few customers where I can't be bothered to wait for the WFP to stop dripping from windows above, as well as the odd customer with tiny tiny windows that takes ages to do trad.

Normally I trad everything I can reach, and I always use a two handed technique to limit the movement on one arm. As I said above, the brush I've built (it needs a name, any ideas?) really is on the small side for regular windows. You have to move across the window a whole bunch of times, so a regular WFP brush on a small handle is probably a better alternative for regular cleaning. Still, this brush definitively has its uses, and I'm glad I now have it in my set of tools.

A commercial version of this brush would probably hide the hose inside the handle, and have a few more bells and whistles. I do welcome a brush like this on the market from the big guys, as long as they give credit where credit is due, and shares freely (as my licensing requires).

Yesterday I had a new customer in a quaint little house with a gazillion smallish windows, so I took the brush for its first real test.

Here are my first impressions using it as a alternative to a regular WFP.

One thing I did not think about when working like this; you are so much closer to the window, and thus you get wet from the water splashing back at you, especially when scrubbing.

The bristles on this car brush seems a bit too soft, as they don't scrub away very much grime. Though this was a first clean so they were rather dirty.

The long handle on this particular brush makes it difficult to get a lot of pressure on the head for some reason, I might build a brush with a shorter handle next time.

The top nozzle could benefit from sitting higher on the brush as you have to angle the brush a bit awkwardly.

I'd rather have a wider brush head for this kind of job.

Sure, but where's the fun custom 3D printing part of that? Jokes aside, just got an used short wfp from a friend yesterday, so need to fit a brush to it.

Gardiner 4ft . Iv Go the 10ft one really light and that bit of extra reach if they have shrubs and such in front of the windows.

That is quite the praise. Mad scientist? I can live with that. :rofl: Though I am just a guy who likes to make stuff, and have access to some special tools.
